I'm almost cringing while typing this but Fable 2 has some definite steamy elements whether I like to admit it or not. Goggles, cogs and steam contraptions on the railways not to mention some of the outfits. It's not a steampunk game at all but it's hard to ignore some of the obvious nods to the genre.

You're very right.
My character on that has the Highwayman's coat, some big... hat... thing, and a fantastic clockwork pistol. The style (of the main hero at least) is very SP.

Are there any steampunk mods for existing games? I think already slightly steampunk such as rise of legends could do with airship/victoriana mods (I wasn't satisfied with the proliferation of airships).
I also think space sims have potential (such as freelancer) - simply replace the ships and backdrops, and perhaps make it harder to move in certain planes, and it could be quite a cool little airship based RPG/shootemup.

I believe their was one in development for Freelancer, but it was a long time ago when I saw it.

To be honest, many of these games, I've never heard of. Myst and Thief is a few of the ones I know of, and my Thief copies is very faulty
or it COULD be my pc that's bad, which it is, I don't know.
Anyway, I've sent for new parts for my pc, hopefully, they're coming today, after that, perhaps I will enjoy Thief 1 and 2 for the very first time!

Theif 1 & 2 are both very very dated. Still solid little games. But very dated graphics. Thief 3 on the other hand still holds up despite being 4 or 5 years old now I think.

Eidos really needs to get on the ball and release another Thief game!

I've got my hot little hands on copies of Myst III (finished - crappy ending no matter what ) and MYST IIII (not played yet - wh00t!), and have played Myst II (daddy threw out all our burned disks - 3/4ths of our collection  ).
I've seen a couple screenshot from I, and they're pretty bad. Is the storyline and puzzles worth looking around for a copy?

And on that note, Warcraft II has some dirigibles although they look like they're made of wood o_0 And some pretty neat 'n steamy Subs. +Hecks yes to the Ballista. And like any other unit that isn't one person x)

Myst I is worth it, but the graphics ARE dated. It's an old game.
Number 2 is awesome. Riven had some of the most beautiful landscapes and devices I've ever seen.
Myst III did NOT have a crappy ending. Well, depends on how you did it.
Did you get the Releeshaan book back, then let the guy go?
Myst IV is incredible, but the hardest of the series.
Myst V is awful, don't bother with it.

Myst V definitely had the weakest story of the quintet. Seeing Releeshaan, even briefly, was amazing, the puzzles were fiendish, and the graphics indeed were astonishing, but the story, the heart and soul of those games, was arbitrary and weak.

Really?  I disliked Thief 3.  The first two were great, but the third just lacked a certain something.  It is a shame about the graphics of the first two, but that detracts very little for me.

Eidos really needs to get on the ball and release another Thief game!

Er...  Two issues there...

1) Both Ion Storm and Looking Glass are defunct
2) Eidos are not really in a position to make another Thief game.  Square Enix are (or have finished) buying up a majority share though.

The best we can hope for is a Square-Enix game called Thief 4 without the team who gave us the original games...

I went back and played every scenario. Even the "happy ending" wasn't particularily satisfying. I mean after all that I get to watch some guy take a little boat away and a quick thanks? Pfghllt. The game itself was way more satisfying than the ending x)

Not for PC, but still good and I believe it is somewhat steamy.

Darkwatch, it is a game where you play as an outlaw in the wild west and while trying to rob a train you unwillingly unleash a vampire, whom turns you into one as well. from then on my go to join the darkwatch(which was the owner of the train you were robbing) and help them get rid of the big bad vampire. I say it is steamy because the weapons are very advanced and I believe most are run using a combination or both normal gunpowder and clockwork.

heh, still havent got myst 4 and 5. finished 1 and 3, but i cant bloody crack riven! i have finished it using my dads notes once, but i forgot them and tried to play it again and couldnt get it

Riven was viciously hard. The trick was to immerse yourself into it and begin thinking laterally. You needed to learn things like Rivenese numeracy, and the shape and layout of the four islands, and memorise them.

yeah, i was ok at traveling between the islands and the numbers and stuff. i got that steam underwater vessel going quite well, and did a few puzzles, but i always get stuck, esp with the domes. i'll have another crack at it. i may have been skewed by remembering bits and pieces of my dads notes

Myst IV was definitely my favourite, but also the hardest.
PROTIP: Do Spire first, it's the easier of the two Prison Worlds and the most gorgeous.
Oh, and number IV will give you a self-taught crash-course in Atrus' family genealogy AND the D'ni language simultaneously, as one of the starting puzzles. I'm serious, that s*** is HARD.

Play the others first. IV is utterly beautiful but it is, and I reiterate, DIFFICULT.
Playing them sequentially is a good idea considering the fiendishness of the puzzles... they're all in a similar vein of OH GOD HOW DO I BEAT THIS, and starting with the first one lets you begin easy. Well, easy by Myst standards.
