I am currently watching Igor and i have to admit it has a very steamy feel. Steam cars, ray guns and, evil scientists. Best part is John Cleese and Eddie Izzard play 2 of the scientists!

Hmm, I'd be tempted to suggest Porco Rosso (1992-Hayao Miyazaki) it is a little late, being set in World War One Italy so it is a personal thing, but I don't really feel the diesel era starts till the 1930's.
The earlier 1910-20s of more experimental aircraft, while not "steam" does for me fit more with the steam era experimentalism.

If TV shows are good for the list, then I second the nomination for Briscoe County Jr. I was just watching the "Pirates!" episode of that series last night. I love it. Pirates with an armor plated stagecoach, with a cannon mounted on it, chasing down helpless covered wagons in the Nevada desert. They had a sweet pirate cave hideout too.

Speaking of Bruce Campbell shows, I would also nominate Jack Of All Trades for the list as well. Mrs. Emilia Smythe Rothschild is one smart lady. I thought her home-made submarine, with hull breaching drill and airlock for attaching to the bottom of pirate ships, was awesome.

the 1989 animated film Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland.

while the overall tone is more fantasy than steampunk, the opening sequences definately have a rather steamy feel to them.

That and the setting is just after the victorian era and still has some visual influence from that time.

It had Tik Tok, the clockwork robot guard in it.

Yes I didn't know whether it would be that steamy when I bought it, I'm a bit interested in French history right now so that was more my impetus... But the guns were pretty, the beast was fun and there were corsets. That made up for what it lacked for me.

Oh my yes! I don't know how historically accurate those are but I liked them! My friend who watched it with me though found them a bit creepy... I think she likened them to spitmasks

I disagree with Porco Rosso, while one of the most fantastic movies in the world, it is all based on real aircraft designs, even the fanciful stuff really existed in one form or the other. Steam/Dieselpunk to me reflects things that didn't exist but could have.

The ripper being played by none other than the very awesome David Warner, who's starred in everything from a cinematic version of Lovecrafts Cool Air to torturing Jean-Luc Picard in TNG, and the voice of Master Control program in Tron....
