These people make an incredible array of WWI and WWII replica uniforms. Very reasonably priced (IMO) and they guarentee to deliver anywhere in the world  and all prices include P&P...

The replicaters site is full of borked links but here's the victorian uniform page.

I was surprised to learn that www.dealextreme.com has some steampunk friendly items.

For example, they have a whole array of cigarette holders/cases, pipes, (electronic cigarettes?) faux victorian jewelry, leds, and a lot more. Unfortunately you do have to dig a bit for it, but it is there.

Best of all they are dirt cheap, there are a lot of reviews, and they ship internationally, for free.
As with all things that sound to good to be true, dealextreme does have a downside. They sell a lot of really cheap stuff of widely varying quality. I suggest reading reviews before purchasing any high ticket items. Other than that, it's amazing how many toys you can get for 20$ or less.

And now, thanks to you, I have spent the past hour browsing that site, and made a $200 list of things I must buy  :P
I'm as mad as I am, but no madder!

You are quite welcome. :)

I must admit that it can be more than a little addicting.
It is quite the online wish book.

WARNING this links to a site that sells modern firearms.

Having said that, they have the best deal I've seen on gas masks. 4 for 20$

Not to mention they often have other surplus such as uniforms (they have had re-enactment uniforms in the past but I haven't seen them advertise any for a while) and other things that could be classified or made steampunky.

Here is my current favorite.  Imagine this flare pistol steamed up a bit...

Also from time to time they carry demilled (rendered inoperable and unrepairable) weapons for display such as bazookas or display pieces (non functional recievers etc.)

They also get in shipments of pre 1900 rifles from time to time which usually have parts missing, to make them inoperable.

Captain Lyerly

This thread is great.  It has all sorts of primary sources for those things we need for all of our projects - clothing, uniforms, props, accessories, etc.

Great Idea, Jerry.

Now, can anybody tell me why it STILL hasn't been stickied?

Cheers!

Though I am going to be down for about a month (maybe less but let's assume longer and be happy if I return sooner) borg steam factory can be added to the list for custom lenses both size and edges. hopefull soon I will be adding diopter design as well at least for basic near and far sightedness (will probably require a bit of CNC modding to my lathe to make them for people with astigmatisms.)

Also if you have regular sunglasses that you would like the lenses cut down to a round shape with a specific edge I can accommodate you on this as well.

http://www.borgsteamfactory.com/lenses.html

also I might note that I have found a lot better deals on electronic parts at electronics gold mine and so pass on their info. (they often times seem to carry things all electronics does not and vice verse.)

http://www.goldmine-elec.com/

check this difference between the two.

http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G5039A
http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G5014A

vs.

zero in stock
and
zero in stock

but to be fair alltronics has
http://www.alltronics.com/cgi-bin/item/93I002/139/UCN5804B-IC
which is an all in one choice for the two above and offered a tiny improvement. half stepping if you are using the two above to make a stepper motor driver for CNC or a maker bot. and it is still the easy to use dip size and style. this is incredible because the part is completely discontinued.

and for the more back to basics you can get the L298 from them at a bit more of a cost

http://www.alltronics.com/cgi-bin/item/LIC_L298N/139/L298N-Linear-IC

did not find the accompanying L297 you need to complete that circuit but I believe I have seen it there before. and it is a lot more affordable than the L298 which is really the work horse of the two while the L297 is more the driver with the whip.

We are systematically adding K's private stash of supplies onto our website, including mixed watch parts, gears, vacuum tubes, vintage glass syringes, filigrees and stampings, etc. We've got a bunch of old skeleton keys, a few gauges, a couple of gas lamp nozzles, and some antique safety goggles and other uniquities that haven't made it online yet (hey, it's just me and my laptop, but I'll keep plugging away at it!), but we'd love for you to have a look!

(We think we've got the international shipping module set up, too, but if you have trouble, please let me know, so I can fix it!)

Mr. Amend posted this link in a goggles tutorial thread in How-To:

http://smallparts.com

They sell brass tubing and sheet brass, among other useful things.

it should be noted that they sell copper beryllium alloy sheet and from what I have been hearing beryllium is highly toxic so if you are buying it for some reason be cautious while handling it and certain not to be using it on anything being worn by people.

sadly all they mention about it's hazards is to avoid inhalation of dust while working with it.

These folks sell "Textile and Marine fasteners" in the UK

They do a good range of brassy stuff, copper rivets, hooks, catches, all sorts of useful bits and pieces
http://www.opas.co.uk/

Though the "online catalogue" is a bit naff - its jpegs of the printed catalogue... They will send a printed one though if you ask.

bikebodger, THANK YOU so much for that link! It helped me find the proper search term for something I've been looking for forever!  :) :D ;D

These folks, Maidstone Engineering sell mainly to model engineers, but have lots of useful stuff - including brass and copper rivets, a fair selection of small fastners etc - and tiny steam whistles  :)
I bought a load of rivets, very quick delivery

http://www.sly.de/ is a German web shop specialising in electronics, even further specialising in valves and related parts. Shipping costs outside Germany might be a bit hefty though.

Wild West Mercantile http://www.wwmerc.com/cgi-bin/Category.cgi?category=home&type=store has some nice period clothing, mostly for a Weird Weird West impression.  But some of the formal wear and the waistcoats might be very useful.

River Junction has much in the way of men's accessories and requisites: http://www.riverjunction.com/ I find their Dry Goods section very helpful, with everything from shaving brushes to Wells Fargo Express bags.  I believe they have a large range for the Ladies as well.  Clothing, shoes, walking sticks, pocket watches and chains, even spectacles.

Hope these are a help.
