Here is my application (drops form on the table), my being, well, shall we say sufficiently old and leave it at that?
Is there a bar here,  or at least a drinks cabinet, perchance, where one might get a good Scotch?

MWBailey

#51
I, MWBailey (and all aliases, including the nefarious the recondine) Do hereby submit my application for Junior Geezer status.

I wear a patch over my left eye for half a day (half a patch over both all day doesn't quite work out), walk with a cane approximately half the week, and my nose runs and my feet smell...

EDIT: oh, yeah, and I just turned not-quite-50.
Walk softly and carry a big banjo...

Add me to the Geezer, um er uhh need a word meaning group but a little more impressive and steampunk related, , , Geezer Battery. Meaning a number of similar articles, items or devices arranged, connected or used together/ a usually impressive or imposing group. Geezer Battery ought to bring to mind someone in pith helmet, white whiskers, well traveled, experienced as well as educated and all brass polished.

We remember when things were built to last. Things built to last were built to be repaired not disposed. Young'ns can do steampunk now because the things we had in our childhood still exist to be scrounged and reused. I can't imagine in 50 more years that PongPunk could possibly exist. The parts and pieces will be in the landfill or recycled.

The thing I like best about SteamPunk is I get to use skills I can't use in the real world. I have aquired a lot of them. I am a geezer that goes into the garage and basement, fires up the lathe, drillpress, wood lathe and other tools to make something. It is one of those things that faded away from the current culture. Went to a friends house recently and all he could show me was his latest Epic Items for his WarCraft character. Latest item in my garage is a MiniMost wooden boat we started on last week, hopefully finished in time to use this summer. That and a dozen SteamPunk projects. I like to show off what I make, at least a little bit. Must be a human nature thing. Notice how many in this forum post pictures of thier latest steampunked items.

Being at a point in my life where fatigue is nearly (nearly, I say!) the equal to my lecherousness, and being 2 score and nine, I hereby submit my petition, along with a list of references and familiars, to this fine establishment.

yours, etc.
It may, indeed, behoove you to know less; but, that is not for me to say.

I say man it is a lack of energy , not interest, that is getting you down correct? I find that is my problem, the interest has exceded the power at the present time
Who you calling old, Sonny boy? Just because my birth certificate is on birch bark there isn't any reason to be calling names.

My compliments on taking care of the matter below with such alacrity. I got quite a chuckle. I look forward to petitioning for membership in this august body in due course, but I shall not pester you with early applications.

In addition to the bother of tracking my paperwork for a decade, I imagine that the appropriate time will come sooner than I think.

I'm with Benjamin Franklin - give me the mature woman every time!

Why thank you sir.  Most kind.  I certainly believe it to be true.  Mature women have more life and "other" experience to offer.

Being a mature woman, you should know that in this day and age, experience and years alive have nothing to do with each other.  ;)

Au contraire, mes enfant....but you won't understand until you're older... ;D

So true sir, so true   ;D

So I acknowledge your toast and raise my flagon of Barleywine.

Cheers!
Onward ho!

I think I qualify, but what and which time zone are you using? A month ago (according to Mr G. Marx) I was 22. At the moment I am in a temporal zone which classifies me as 62, But at the Asylum I was 43. Help!!!

My dear good Doctor, we here at Universal Time Travel LLC have just the answer for you! The Entropic Temporalizer (pat.pend.)! What can ET do for you? Instead of measuring age by chronology, which becomes difficult as one goes back and forth through the ages, ET measures the entropy of your cellular disintegration and keeps a record in waterproof India ink!

But wait, there's more! Since we are still in Beta testing (and have still not overcome the unfortunate necessity for the brass suppository and the rectal clamps), we are able to offer ET to you at the reduced price of only sixteen gold doubloons! I KNOW! AMAZING!

When next you are in 18th century Spain, just pick up a few coins and we will æther-mail the ET to your current century! We look forward to helping you understand how truly old you are.

Your Servant Sir,
Squire J. Lödro,
Principal, UTT, LLC

Unfortunately due to a slight (but hopefully temporary) misfunction I seem to be a bit stuck in the English late "Wars of the Roses" era. We have a slight problem in that the rightful King (Richard III) was a silly bugger and miscalculated a cavalary charge. At the moment need to be a handsome 35 year old, *yawn* .Will get back to you as soon as I have sorted this one out.

I was in a denim western cut leisure suit and black roachkillers* with 3"heels,black leather string tie with a Thunderbird Kachina dancer slide. my date was in a emerald green A-line dress with a white feather fasinator in her hair .... didn't realize what it was untill a couple of days ago.

I must say, very reassuring to see this thread.  I am about to attend my first steampunk event, one month shy of my 50th birthday, and I was somewhat concerned there would be no loonies of my vintage.  I have always held to the maxim that we must grow older, but we need never grow up.  Good to see the proof here!

Putting in my application as well, I'll be 50 in December.

For my birthday I was toying about having a party inviting people to tell stories of the uncanny (inspired by a tradition in Stephen King's story "The Breathing Method")

Before or after the middle of the month, old boy?  I must decide whether to disparage you as a young whippersnapper whose presence needs to be removed from my lawn, or as an old codger who should be derided for senility and probable incontinence.

Rather like comparing the dates of one's commissions to determine seniority.  I am sure from the glengarry and pace stick in your photo you will appreciate the concept!

Ah, then.... you are officially ancient, decrepit, antediluvian and superannuated.  In other words, four days older than me.

Very kind of ye, mate.  Pint o' best bitter, then.  A man cannae keep up a spherical shape like mine without constant feeding, ye ken.

Now, am I right in assuming HMA Todd would be an airship, at all?  Must be right drafty, wha' wi' the kilt an' all.

Aye it is, we're on temporary assignment with the Todd to help deal with an increase in air piracy.

Lady Arachne

Esteemed members of the Fifty - Plus club for Steamgeezers. Would you be so kind to allow a Lady who is not quite at the half century mark. But is shy by one year, six months? I strongly feel I am better suited in a place, where ladies and gentlemen  understand the needs of the baby boomer Steamers..

Yours, cordially Lady Arachne

It is interesting the number of "mature" steampunkers there seem to be.

I wonder what percentage are old gamer geeks, scifi officionados, historical reenactors liking the historical fantasy, or tinkerers attracted by the DIY aspect.

Conservatively, about 100%, would be my guess.  I was options a.) and b.) for the first half of my life, and c.) for the second.  It would be a shame to suddenly grow up just because one is entering into the third quarter!
