There's another thread about it. Apparently they've finally updated the software for the site and they're still working on importing all the features working properly again. Soon.

Just out of curiosity, could anyone tell me how one might change the size & style of ones typeset?

The button with an A and a double headed arow next to it changes the size.

The red A next to it changes the font.

I have a dropdown menu next to those that says "change color"

Well, Thats the first time I've been quoted in moving text. Strange.

I have yet another question for the unfathomably knowledgable populace of Brass goggles:
How do you add a word into the title of a spoiler such as here?

Try it here to see how I did this....

Happy Birthday !

Notice that glow=black - I changed this by hand to produce a solid black background for the coloured letters (I was sorry to have missed Mrs. Sullivans birthday so I wanted to at least give her a pretty birthday card).  I can't work out what the other two parameters 2 and 300 do.  I tried altering them but couldn't see any effect.  Apply size before glow to make the background colour the same height as the text.

Here is another example of rich text formatting.

Colours - they don't all render as expected.
black
red
yellow
pink
green
orange
purple
blue
beige
brown
teal
navy
maroon
lime green

Somebody please help me!

I am trying to post images in my replies with no luck.

I have a stack of images on picasa web as a result of my blog, and I can do a URL link to them:

http://picasaweb.google.com/madunclecliff/AntipodeanSteampunkAdventures?authkey=keeJHA90EdU#5255778455252329378

But - how do I use the insert image key and what do I put between the to show an image?

Do I need to host photo's elsewhere saved as .gif files or can I insert images from either picasa web or my blog site?

I do want to share my craft on tactile but I keep failing with the image posting thingamybob doohicky whatsit!

Fisrtly right click on the photograph
select ''view image''
Copy the address of the photograph from the address bar thingamy
paste it in your post
type [ img ] infront of it (minus the spaces inside the brackets)
and [ /img ] after it

Alternately, after you've pasted the adress into your post highlight it all and then click on the little button that looks like a miniature painting, and it should do the same thing ;D

-if you click on the quote button for this post, you can see how the coding goes:

And the image is posted ;D

I'm having trouble getting pictures on my computer into a internet format that could be posted...for some reason it jsut isn't liking them

I know I am really bad with computers. What is a simple, easy way to do this?

IrfanView makes it pretty simple.

By sheer coincidence, I actually have that program, but have not used it in a good while.

Sadly I have no real idea what I am doing with it...

Use the Help, VAP.

In the FAQ section, there's a list at the bottom of tutorials you might want to look at.

If you have a specific question, I can probably help.

Well all I really want to do is get pics I have into a format that could be posted here. (I am probably overcomplicating this.) I tried publishing it to the web, but for some reason that process is rejected. (Not done through Irfanview)

Iview will easily convert whatever into a webbable format. I favor PNG, or there is the popular JPG. I also recommend making sure the image size is not enormous. All these are easily done. If resizing, use the slowest algorithm. Iview will do several oneclick resizings, so you may not even need to figure anything out.

Just don't save an image on top of itself. Always use Save As.

A good rule of thumb is to use JPEG for photos and PNG for drawings. PNG is lossless, so it tends to produce rather large file sizes when used for storing photographs, as natural images don't have much in the way of repeating patterns.

Hmmm....I have a  certain feeling that this has been covered elsewhere...but what are good proportions to make a profile pic so it's not all squished?

Well, von Adler's avatar (just above you) is 80x80 pixels, and OPB's is 96X96...

AHA! A little investigative sourcery reveals that all avatar pics are scaled to 65X65. As long as your image is square, it won't be distorted, although if it is big it will take longer to load and longer to render. (The scaling is done by the viewer's browser, not by the server.) Also, a big image might end up looking a bit ragged if it gets scaled down too much.

The image tags take the form
[img]http://www.myhost.ca/name/of/image/file.jpg[/img]
Note that the tags do not contain a space after the opening bracket. Also, the image URL is entirely contained between the tags. An alternative is to use the "Insert image" button, which is the one which looks like a framed painting and is (at least for me) the first button on the second row, below the Bold button and above the  :) smiley button.

Finally, the URL must point directly to something the Forum engine recognizes as an image file, that is, a file whose name ends in .gif, .jpg, or .png (and possibly .bmp) or one of the acceptable variants of these, that is, something that could legally be the target of an html <img> tag. If it points to something else, such as a .html file or a CGI- or PHP-generated page, it will not be translated into an <img> when the page is viewed.
