Can someone tell me if we are required to use the spoiler?  Or do people use it just so their text is all visible when they post several pictures?

It's a matter of etiquette, not rule. When posting multiple images, it makes the forum much more readable to drop them in spoiler tags.

There was a similar problem earlier in this thread

http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,2969.msg647532.html#msg647532

You're not posting image links, you're posting URLs

On this page, http://www.flickr.com/photos/frolickingjohnson/6838948068/#sizes/z/in/photostream/

right click the picture and select Copy Image URL or your browser equivalent.  Image addresses must end with an image extension to work, i.e. .jpg .gif .png etc

So what you need is

[img]http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7061/6838948068_4ef9522e12_z.jpg[/img]

to give you

Then to place it in a spoiler, you simply wrap the above in spoiler tags

[spoiler][img]http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7061/6838948068_4ef9522e12_z.jpg[/img][/spoiler]

Thank you so much. I read all the posts on this thread over and over again but didn't understand. I'm going to try again later. I'm new to flickr and posting images on this forum. I see you did it without a problem so I'm sure I'll have it figured out by the end of the day. I'm sorry for clogging up this thread with my failed attempts. Feel free to delete all my mess after I figure it out. Thank you again.  :)

Flickr makes it particularly hard to get a link to the actual image; they do a lot to make sure it's always just a link to an image.  There are other hosting services (min.us, imgur) that are a little better for the sort of sharing we do here.

Actually, I've found Flickr is usually very easy to work with; it's just particularly hard to find that specific feature. (I've PMed Mr. Johnson with detailed instructions.) There may be more to it than that, though, as I have seen a very few Flickr accounts which don't seem to have the Share feature at all, but not enough of them to figure out what the difference is.

Oh well, I guess it's just not going to work with flickr. Maybe I'll try photobucket.

I think you may have not copied the BBCode bit accurately, because it does appear to work:

Try putting Spoiler tags around around this bit:

Right click on the image you want to show and click on "properties" at the bottom.

Cut and paste that in if you want to insert it as an image.  Thus:

[ img]http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8171/8073369930_0e22f3c649_m.jpg[/img] (Extra space for clarity) Gives this:

If you are putting in the web address you should use the web link.

[ url]http://www.flickr.com/photos/88403403@N06[/url]
(Extra space again)

Which comes up as http://www.flickr.com/photos/88403403@N06

Actually could not get the list to find properties, but opening image in new tab gave me the address.
A complicated little process, alot harder than the previous forum I used. Will get used to it I am sure, Brass Goggles seems alot busier than there.
Cheers!

Thankyou Mr time Tinkerer, you are a gem *hands an antique gold soverign and an ounce of pipe tobacco  ;D

My pleasure.

Welcome to BG and may I be so impertinent as to ask where you used to frequent?
[move]BE SPLENDID![/move]

JR Murray

Dear Mr Time Tinkerer,
I used to frequent The Steampunk Empire. http://www.thesteampunkempire.com/ I stilll frequent there, and it is still alot of fun, but goes a bit slow when I am online, being upside down on the planet to most posters.
Posting an image there was clicking on the same icon as here, but then it let you browse and choose directly from the file on your computer/harddrive, no internet uploading to photosites necessary. Sooooo easy.

I do hope to see you around the Forums, there is alot to see and do.
Regards.
JR Murray
Cheers!
