You do exceptionally lovely work, unclebert!

Comments like yours are what keep me going. I will remake the gauges as RAF-style Spitfire gauges and then onto a steampunk design more suited to BrassGoggles. Once you have a set of decent gauges they can be adapted visually.

Glad you like them. I wish I received more feedback like yours but such is life...

Credit where credit is due, unclebert - they are spectacular!
Not a lot that I can use now I'm a Mac user, but I am still running Vista and XP on other machines no longer connected to the 'net.

All my last widgets are operative on Mac os/x and Windows.

Good-o - will have to investigate when I come back from tomorrow's wedding in Melbourne.
My wallpaper at the moment is a picture of a waterfall in the Killarney National Park, but I'm sure the photo I have of Clashganny Lock in Wicklow will be suitably SP!

This is the XWidget version of the Dieselpunk Volume widget that you could certainly use on your desktop. It is a lovely piece of eye-candy as well as being useful on your desktop.

Not strictly a new widget, I used the same code as for the steampunk volume widget https://www.deviantart.com/yereverluvinuncleber/art/XWIDGET-Version-1-0-5-Steampunk-Volume-XWidget-391464126 and then resized the images from an older design that I never actually created - https://www.deviantart.com/yereverluvinuncleber/art/Dieselpunk-volume-control-trial-image-582043422

Here it is on my desktop:

You can see the older steampunk version alongside for comparison. On the new one all brass removed, sound horn replaced with electric speakers, mounted on a cream bakelite plastic base. Added a handle for the slider and removed any Victorian embellishments. A simplification as it were, an upgrade to more up-to-date technologies and a reduction in the quality of the components.

The widget can be locked by clicking on the left stanchion. The direction of the mousewheel can now be defined. Also, the licence code has been added, accessed via the menu. This brings the functionality into line with the old Konfabulator widget of the same name.

Click on the slider and drag it to the left or right and the system volume will increase/decrease.

Click on the mute button and the system sound will mute.

If you change any of the system's sound settings using any other tools the widget will detect this and make changes to the slider accordingly.

It can be resized as you wish by CTRL + mouse scroll wheel up/down.

The Dieselpunk Volume XWidget is a moveable widget that you can move anywhere around the desktop as you require.

You can get the widget from here:

https://www.deviantart.com/yereverluvinuncleber/art/XWIDGET-Version-1-0-0-Dieselpunk-Volume-XWidget-761692195

This widget requires Xwidget engine to operate. Download the Xwidget engine from here:

I'm loving these images (and the sequence that precedes them); yours is a most elegant desktop.

Yours,

New Dieselpunk Panzer Calendar Gauge using the same graphics adapted. Widget being built as of now. Just a trial image for the moment.

Code will be created using RJtextEd and that is in progress now. This is the working widget on my desktop, a work-in-progress.

Cousin Itt

Hi Unk,
Nice to see you're still around. ;D
I've been gone for awhile. :(

Cousin Itt

You have been gone a while...

I am really the ONLY person here on this thread but still not here often.

Tut, tut, unclebert! I pop in as well, when there is something new & spectacular to see!
Welcome home, Cousin Itt!

Cousin Itt

Thanks.

I've been down without a PC or internet for almost 4 years.
Life sometimes go's awry.

Time to build a new PC.

The one I'm on now belongs to the wife.

Nothing too serious I hope Cousin Itt.

Times change, now Windows 10 (the abomination) is prevalent, customisation is being suppressed and the 80s have returned as the dominant design paradigm in computing, big blocky squares and large  text for pudgy fingers to poke. No finesse, no detail.

Very few now post their customised desktops as the main consumer platforms deny customisation and in their place provide a uniform and easily identifiable corporate interface, that is the current trend.

Well, I run my Mac without desktop icons at all, and only use the Dock. Now, I do this is because I like the uncluttered, clean desktop, which allows me to take full advantage of my own photographs as my wallpaper, and keeps me focussed on my work, not the lovely icons etc.!. I am thinking about changing some of those dock icons, but for now, it's uncluttered and clean.

Unclebert, I do love your work, and, as I have a PC running Windows Vista, primarily used as a colour printing and scanning server. and will have a couple of games installed on it too, soon, I will be installing our lovely steampunk icons and wallpapers etc., when I have the time spare to spend on it. The Vista machine replaces the one I had refurbished and handed on to my nephew. It is no longer being connected to the Internet, so downloading the new icons has to be done on the Mac and transferred across. Fortunately I was able to have the old Vista hard drive copied, so all the splendid graphics, icons etc., I used to have on the old one will be copied onto the current one - win all round! ;D

Oh just some medical bills (30k), a lightning strike, keeping up with getting old autos, etc.

I'll have to see if I can still do customizations on a W10 machine when I get one built.
I've done very little on a PC since December 2015.

Of course the new PC will have a Steampunk theme.  ;D

This time around I'll be going with a mini-itx MB.

Oh just some medical bills (30k)

I know what that's like. I am having treatment too, stomach issue, great staff and first class hospital - luckily (and thank God) all free. The NHS, one of the benefits of living in the UK. Come and live over here!

I am working on a slew of desktop thingies. Slow pace as that is the way it is.

XPs/Win7s run dialog box themed for Mediaeval Total War

I already have some working code that can give you a fully functioning run dialog (written in QB64/Inform) on the Windows desktop. I can easily attach that code to this re-skin giving you a medieval run dialog in Windows 7 or 10, you only have to ask...

This is a skin I have just knocked up for a run dialog replacement. The default Windows run dialog was typically quite generic, modern (1980s design) and boring to the extreme. The run dialog has gone from Windows 10 start menu so this could be your replacement...

It would be usable as a medieval re-skin for Windows to match a game such as Mediaeval Total War or similar, or as a Victorian Arts and Crafts themed shell, steampunk in nature.

Medieval Total War Themed Folder Browser Skin

I deeply dislike Windows 10's massive and blocky UI elements. So dull, so corporate and so temporary.

This is my version of a folder browser, one I am adding to my steampunk media player. It suits it much better and I will use this skin again and again when I need it. The image above shows it in folder mode showing the sub-folders that exist just below the current folder. It can also show files and act as file browser.

Right click and view to see a less blurry version...

I still have some familiar elements yet to style, the folder icons, the computer icon but they are familiar enough and usable to be retained for the moment. As it is my own folder browser code I can even change the font and so I am using the Centurion Light font rather than the dull Windows 10 default system font. It would be usable as a medieval folder browser skin for a game such as Mediaeval Total War or similar, or as a Victorian Arts and Crafts themed folder browser.

I am in the process of adding a slider to allow scrolling up/down which only appears when there is more than one screen of files/folders. Also allowing the manual selection of files using the up/down keys as well as scrolling pages using the mouse scroll wheel. It identifies known file types as they are displayed and allows you to interact with the folders and files.

Still loving your work, unclebert!

Thankyou - I may soon have a steampunk Explorer alternative for Windows and Mac.

Current Project (very late) - some Christmas Baubles

Fig 1.0 - The help file for the baubles

Each plays a carol suited to a day in Advent, they fade in and out as your mouse passes over each, respectfully keeping themselves unnoticed in the background.

Fig 2.0 The desktop shown with the baubles bright and shiny (they fade to 20% opacity when idle)

I had hoped (and have managed) to largely finish them BEFORE advent ends...

You can get it here:
https://www.deviantart.com/yereverluvinuncleber/art/Christmas-Advent-Bauble-Widgets-776141834

I used a coding text editor and Photoshop exclusively to create this particular program. It is approximately 1,600 lines of code in 8 program files, mostly standard javascript with some XML descriptors. 155 separate images, baubles, advent calendar inserts, doors opened and closed, numbers, help files, scrolls &c.

You will, of course, need the Yahoo widget desktop javascript engine for this widget to run. Get Yahoo widget engine here. https://g6auc.me.uk/ywidgets.html

So, on Windows the installation guide is simple, install yahoo widgets, extract the widget from the zipfile, double click on the .widget file and you are done!

A present for you this Christmas.
