It seems that the majority of us no longer have desktops... probably phones or tablets with amorphous corporate interfaces. So sad...  :'(

I have a laptop, and customising that feels daunting... I hope to get a desktop at some point when I am no longer in the living situation I am currently, and I will surely come back to this thread to figure out how to set it up all good looking
it's ALIVE --- and weirdly obsessed with wizards?

Agreed, most people appear to wander around with a phone permantly, almost surgically attached to their hand these days.

Just for your info a few of your widgets have stopped working for me after Doz 11 updates.

Not surprised. I stopped all updates for Win 10 in January. They've had so many issues with their security patches for Windows 11 and Windows 10, that I just had to stop the auto update.  For a moment, USB Sound card support and even Bluetooth connections stopped working altogether for many computers, in both Win 11 and Win 10, so I couldn't risk my boombox's computer and its new replacement either!

Yes, Windows 11 is a reet pain for almost all that want a stable operating system that does not invade your privacy and get in the way of your workflow through inadequate design, annoying decisions re: security and schizophrenic design.

The old widgets are dying a slow death now. I no longer support them as it is a pointless and thankless task fighting against a tide of Microsoft crap.

Instead, I am rewriting them in VB6 and now TwinBasic. You can find them here: https://github.com/yereverluvinunclebert

This task is a fairly monumental one and will take a lot of time. Therefore I am focussing upon developing them until completion. I suggest you have a look to see what I am up to but don't try installing any of them unless you like having fun and games.

No support will be offered whatsoever until I release them, otherwise I will never get them done.

You can see a few of them here, they work, they run, I just haven't finished, polished and built installers but I'm close...

Two of those are old-style yahoo widgets, the desktop hole and the media player. The rest are VB6/TwinBasic.

If any of you ever want to pick up TwinBasic, it is free, easy to use and produces 64bit binaries. If you want to get into real programming it is a no-brainer.

PS It is nice to hear from you all.

It's a real shame and somewhat sad you have given up on these wonderful original widgets. I have set up a four screen PC solely based on them.

Oh well there you go. I point blank refuse to become a mobile zombie so I suppose basic and boring is eventually on the cards, with a few monitors being removed and binned. such is life and thank you for the many years they have provided some kind of difference.

Let me know the Yahoo widgets you use the most and I will let you know when/if the VB6 replacements will be ready.

The giving up is not a choice of mine, it is imposed upon me. No point in flogging a horse that has clearly been dying for a decade. Time to up sticks and head for pastures new. That is what I have done and the results should be positive. It is just a learning curve and progress is not as swift as I would have liked.
