So it turns out a very good friend of mine has the entire back catalogue of the main series of Big Finish's Doctor Who. Have just settled in at work, and am listening to the very first episode, The Sirens of Time, with not 1, not 2, but 3 Doctors.

(May not be music, but it sure is good listening)

Never mind the Cogs

I still seem to be finding many of my favourite choonz through TV series as opposed to anything climbing the charts at present. I don't know if being featured is another pay to play set up for bands like many adverts are. But still, sometimes the folks in charge of these shows seem to have better taste in music than they do in script writers.

I have now.

I don't like it.

Me neither. But I'd like to hear somebody else try. :)

A Perfect Circle- The Package HD

A favourite album of mine.  There's a bit of them that reminds me of Jethro Tull.  In spite of the somewhat controversial singer who left Tool, I'll risk injury by stating I like A Perfect Circle better than Tool.  Really excellent acoustic-to-metal balance that I had not heard ever in Tool.  If you like any of this then you should buy the album - the whole thing is good.

Some of it is so different, but really very good all around: Blue

Maynard never left Tool as far as I know. APC were simply another band he was in although comparisons between the two were inevitable. I know the original bass player at that time Paz Lenchantin got a bit frustrated with the long periods of inactivity as Maynard was often busy with other things (such as Tool and wine making which I understand is a major business for him now).

Paz finally hooked up with these guys, quite a different vibe and arguably a lot more organic but I really like them.

Tool have actually proved a popular band to cover, particularly for drummers it seems. I must admit the ability to emulate some of Danny Careys' more polyrythmic tub thumping is a good demonstration of skills.

And in some cases, it's downright hot.  ;D

The Entrance Band: Definitely more classic, and bluesy especially 3 minutes into the song when it breaks into full blues.  Come down to 6th Street in Austin and you will hear this sound in the live music venues.  Makes me want to go for a beer  ;D  ( I just hate the traffic downtown but anyone who loves blues and blues-rock transitional music should make a pilgrimage here).  To a lesser extent we also have our fair share of 40s Swing-Country-early rock transitional music - perfect for those rockabillies out there.

Amazing drum cover.  Hot chick, she can come down here too  ;D  Can't wait for the next SXSW festival (I'm sure she has or will be here at some point).  Shame SXSW has become so monetised. It is now extremely expensive to get full badges, for music, film and tech events (http://sxsw.com/attend).  If it were not for the free events I would not be able to attend at all.

We just finished two weekends of Austin City Limits (click for a long string of you tube video recaps of live music at ACL these last weekends) Austin is a very good place for music lovers  8)  ...and beer lovers...

Try Imperial Zeppelin by Peter Hammill - airships & very steamy

[Available on You-know-where]

Pack your bags, we're leaving
earth, where hate is seething;
nothing's worth believing....
There's no time, make up your mind!
Imperial Zeppelin....
Quick, the engines are turning,
cabin lights are burning,
now there's no returning....
We'll have love a mile above...
Imperial Zeppelin, Imperial Zeppelin, Imperial Zeppelin!
We, the undersigned, being of sound mind,
hereby do declare:
'We henceforth pledge ourselves unto the power
of the Upper Air.'
Doesn't that sound simply super,
Zeppelin visions of the future?
Of course we all know very well
it wouldn't work, but what the hell -
every dice deserves a throw,
and when we get back home below
we can say we had a go!
Overboard we are throwing
seeds of love we are sowing,
hope to God they're growing....
Flying high across the sky:
Imperial Zeppelin!
We will try to do some good,
I don't know why we really should,
I only wish that we could!
Down below they'll see and know all about
Imperial Zeppelin!
Imperial Zeppelin!
Imperial Zeppelin!
