I don't know about you guys, but I like me some Steampunk literature. There's a lot of it, sure, but I'm always keen for some more.

So fellow Steampunks, who's working on a book? Tell us about it! Make us want to read and buy you! Tell us where we can see previews! I love that there's always more people writing more books I know I'll love to read one day. Here's the place to tell us if you're one of those people :D

What are you writing?

I am.   I have several short stories, but one I have been working on novelizing.

I will post a couple short stories to this thread in a couple weeks.  Right now they are under a consideration in a contest, so I need to not put them online till they choose.

The novel is about Ranger Reid.   I mentioned some of the backstory to it on our game thread and on it's out of character thread.

Antonus Fudge

155,110 words in. Needs to be pared down a bit but the samples I've posted have got mostly decent responses, unless of course everyone's being super kind :)

As regards the work, therein being a saga of intercontinental struggle, grand deceptions, crumbling cityscapes, great leaps forward, families rent asunder, outlandish flying contrivances, doomed romances, beasts so large you'll scream, and a handful of ordinary citizens trying to wrestle back control of their lives in a far-distant otherworld that seems to be on the brink of falling to bits both geopolitically and physically; the themes are manifold, the prose dense and unforgiving.

My first book "The End" is up on Amazon along with a short story.
My Next "Æthershadow" is getting edited and rewritten,
Next Book "Kitsune" has the first draft finished.

And I am working on the first of the Dragons Rising books that run parrallel to the first books but have cross overs.
I suffer from a random misfiring synapse and a bad case of wolfen the turns me into a seven-foot-tall werewolf or a seven-foot great wolf!

I am, but not even slightly steamy I'm afraid :(

I'm plotting something for Nanowrimo; have the basic concept, just need to flesh out the story..

Madasasteamfish

I'm working on a sequel to my first novel (I've got no plans to publish either as things stand) which was a SP thriller.

Unfortunately the plot twists and turns like a twisty turny thing so much it's very difficult to surmise without giving too much away.
I made a note in my diary on the way over here. Simply says; "Bugger!"

"DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING, JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH."

Here is my wordpress site.   I put several short stories on it.  They range from Western settings to SteamPunk to... Ancient Japan.....

I know...  but I write about what interests me, so it is sort of all over the place.   I hope someone enjoys.

Best of success to ALL of you working towards this.  I managed to complete three books so far of varying degrees of success, alluded to at WordPress site: https://speculativeparadigmshifts.wordpress.com/

We don't get rich with the effort, but it is immensely satisfying to pen the words "the end" (even if for no other reason than to satisfy your own need to have completed such a project).

My first book actually starts with (The End)

I'm working on a graphic novel. It's a Steampunk Western where robots control the West. Been a dream of mine for the last decade to get it published.

It's currently at Kickstarter, hoping to get the funding I need to have the art finished.

Not particularly steamy but well worth a read. If anyone here remembers Elite?

This novel charts the epic rise of the Elite universe and seeks to reconcile the worlds of oolite (object orientated elite) created due to the frustration of the great game slowly dwindling with badly thought out sequels. And the new world of Elite:Dangerous.

It runs in close association with the megalithic quadrology of Drew Wagar:

and refers back to earlier publications especially in relation to the Shulth.

walking stick

I'm writing but I don't know if it's going to be a novel a series of linked stories or even a board game.

Muse

Ooh, I'm working on a novel with a friend of mine - it's called Phantasmagoria, and I don't want to reveal too much at the moment, but picture parallel worlds, mythical creatures, and Steampunk, all combined. (It sounds a little crazy, but we're confident it will work.) I really, really don't wish to sound arrogant in any way, but I am regularly told, when people read my writing, that I am very good. And my friend is in a league of her own when it comes to writing - the final product is invariably utterly captivating, not that she belives me. When we have worked on it a lot a bit more, I may see if I can post/link to some of it on here.

Amelia Harper

Some time ago, I read a bit of obscure history on the blog Beyond Victoriana.  It was about how Chinese novels were wildly popular in Mongolia, so novels translated into Mongolian were taken by pack train from China for sale.  This valuable commodity attracted bandits, so the booksellers were armed to the teeth!
So I really wanted to write about Mongolian Book Bandits!
Now I'm about half way through a novel in which my heroines, Miss Amelia Harper and Miss Li Bic, have been sent to Mongolia to track down a missing secret agent.  On the way they meet up with the booksellers, having travelled across China from Shanghai on the Chinese Grand Canal.
Just about everything in my story is real - except the Death Ray, of course!
Steampunk adventure featuring Manchester's Chinatown is now available on Smashwords!
The Ministry of Unladylike Warfare by Lesley Arrowsmith

Ranger Reid

Sounds great!   My own novel is full of real history, although steamed.  Even the creatures are taken from Native legends.

Clym Angus

Mongolian book bandits, that rolls of the tongue beautifully.

gaslampfantasy

I'm currently working on several novels, but none of them steampunk. I will be doing another Steampunk novels for NaNoWriMo.

The Corsair

All cool stuff to hear about guys :D

And feel free to post links to places we can preview your work.

I myself have a novel that needs a solid re-write of prose (so it can show and not tell etc etc) which I started on a while ago, plus a new project I'm currently 50,000 words deep on.

The first is set in a post-apocalyptic Europe where a young Swiss man helps rediscover lighter-than-air flight.

The second is about a street urchin who cons his way into a school of magic despite having no magical ability.
