Meri, having been a Liaison attached to the Order via an alliance with Japan, and a supernatural being (which group the Order apparently tends to view as little better than livestock), most likely only knows that the professor possesses something for controlling what she persists in calling "supernaturals."

She feels that such a device  is abhorrent, yet has a conflicting belief that some supernaturals need to be controlled (raging, destructive beings like ogres, for example, or vampires who are not in disciplined control of themselves like she is, for example).

She might or might not know the Doctor's original role in the Order. I'd say not, though she was told that only those with a certain smell or other identifiers were qualified to be her superiors, and that the heads of the order or their immediate subordinates only were in that group. The remains of that smell or identifier is likely what is making her so suspicious of him.

I kind of figured as much (you may have already mentioned it, I can't really recall right now).

Sensitive to pheromones and hormones... not precisely, or at least it's not that kind of system; it's more of a learned smell (somewhat like the scent that one's armpits give off when one eats a lot of garlic or some other strong spice or seasoning all the time) or recognition of a mental signal thing; in either case, it's a case of "here, smell/psych this. That's what your bosses smell/feel like," rather than a hormonal trigger that demands obedience; if it were that, she'd have been unable to switch sides. It might be a magickal construct, like a tattooed magickal circle, but in any case, it's just a signal that someone is a leader, not a trigger to control behavior, which is probably why the Order so desperately wants the device the doc has, and why it's such a dire threat; they lack that level of control over their "livestock" at present.

We keep the box and Liam tinkers with it.  Takes away the explosive but leave the "magic/ perscussion" effect.   It would knock out anyone with special abilities, and would impact magic users directly proportional to how deeply they are involved. 

Basically, it would level all of us excelt the single person who has neither.....    Donna.

Meri is taking no action, realizing that the Doc is on the edge, more or less. She senses he's not completely gone round the bend, though, and is not sure what he'll do next - plus she knows Liam is capable of doing something to her if he mistakes her intentions. She likely scented the magic in the box, but not beiing a mage was not sure what to do with it; possibly she's run into such traps before. In any case, she realizes that even if she just vanishes, that might force the doctor to do something untoward - so she stands pat, waiting for the next gambit.

I feel I should point out that Jace is behind a motor oil drum, shielded by it from the blast and shrapnel of the grenade - as long she stays put; there's not a lot of danger for her, even though Al isn't holding a helmet or anything but himself over the grenade, but if it explodes under him and she's come out from behind the barrel, injury is just possible for her (there's a reason why the helmet move used to be part of the military training process).

Someone can decide if the Doctor is unconscious, disappeared, just angry but not hurt, whatever........
