Internet service is spotty this evening; the freeway next to our subdivision is undergoing massive renovation and rerouting, and they apparently keep having to do their messing around in the vicinity of the local trunk lines (or so the excuse from the phone company runs when asked; I have no clear idea what that really means, buuut...), so I can't guarantee I'll be available all the time.

What is happening is Jace and the doctor are mentally linked for the moment he will play it up that the collar was only a control but as the spell fades so will his voice in her head.

A bit of hard vampiric reality from Meri (more or less stereotypical, but some memes vary to several degrees in either direction). Not sure if we really want to feed the Doc to Meri, he is still a client after all, unless we've decided he's violated the agreement

I'm just playing along; Al's being graphic because he's angry to the point of, well, murder for what's been done to Jace, also for the way that the Doc has bent an broken the contract (as Al would most likely see it) - but also in order to scare the Doc into talking.

Meri's tie-up of the doctor is spelled just a bit (a technique she learned in the Village) with a small cantrip to detect magic and effect a result, in this case, tighten the noose she put around his neck when she tied him up. It's reacting to the energy field produced by the psychic link between the doctor and Jace; it seems to me that it would be similar to magickal energy, so the noose tightens when the echoes hit. It probably won't tighten enough to kill him before the effect of the necklace wears off, but Meri is just the sort to not tell him that.

The last resort is an actual hell hound that can be summoned up in a time of danger at the cost of a soul given to the one who tought the user the spell.  It will protect the summoner at all costs but the doctor will have to forfeit what is left of his soul to his brother so he will wait until his last breath to do it.

I had an idea earlier about writing something just like this.     I think I even alluded to the cost of magic and you not owning the spirits you deal with completely, that they own you a little too....

*killing ghostlights with pencil crosses: there's an old legend in Texas, in the hispanic commuinity around Marfa (of the Marfa Lights) about a local man who used to disperse the lights that the area has become famous for, by using the age-old folk practice of blessing bullets (or wjatever weapons) with a cross and a prayer. He supposedly did it by drawing crosses on the tips of the bullets that he fired at the lights. I have no idea wjether or not such phenomenae really exist(ed) in California (which is where Al is from), but if there are or were, it would stand to reason that the same old folk traditions or similar would exist.

I was thinking that "Daddy Pasquel" was most likely a local folk healer or "curandero" or similar whom Al knew when he was a boy.

That works for me.  I think the whole station will have no problem pretending the doctor was never there and they will be weary of Germans for a bit.  They don't want trouble because it is bad for business.

I think Meri, having no place to go (she was not there when the village was "moved"), will probably stay around on the Station, and as I said before, most likely work in a local club like the Imperial Palace swing club in the Station's Chinatown neighborhood, perhaps even taking over as the proprietress after some mishap leaves it leaderless. Maybe she'll take care of much of Chinatown's supernatural troublemakers, and perhaps she'd have a somewhat official connection with the Scarabs (if that fits; if not, then not). Or (and?), be a kind of unofficial Ace when there's a need for her "services."

Ah, pipedreams...

It seems like perhaps Al and Jacie have some 'character development' coming their way...

I imagine while she is healing she will have to lean on Al a bit.  What kind of story do you all want next?  What wmb said about misbehaving supernaurals could be interesting.  It could be that there are more than just people with prices on their head hideing on the station.

Not quite yet. We have to send the doctor off and make sure his crazy Germans don't come back quickly and then yes on to the next story.   I think it may have a ghost ship in it.

Meris is offering to do as Liam suggested, albeit perhaps not in exactly the same way he suggested; she really doesn't like the idea of having the Doc's mind connected to hers, even though she could exact a lot of revenge that way.

Here is my idea for the next story.  Starting one dark and stormy night the duckpond is plagued by a ghost fleet that seams to be making off with any and all supernatural refugees it can find. It is up to the aces to find the truth behind the ghosts before it is too late.

Story can open with the gang reading the newspaper about an explosion in germany.   Bunch of old guys dressed on long robes, all kinds of candles and about.   One of them being our doctor.  LOL

The swing kids outside the Imperial Palace are, of course, a pair of anthropomorphic half-species types (not decided what the boy is yet). I'd say some supernatural types are already on the station (hence the scene I just posted), but not openly as supernaturals. Thus, the half-species and the lesser sprites, etc. live and work in various areas, a small minority among the Duckpond''s hodgepodge or crooks, thugs, bravos and regular people. Some would, to my way of thinking, band together as a community, whilst others would tend toward solitude (just like humans do). This might serve as a nucleus for attracting the supernatural refugees discussed above.

The two kids obviously heard the commotion and went to watch the excitement down at the Aces' compound; probably lots of other folk saw something as well. They're all thinking, rather laughably erroneously, that Meri is some kind of superhero who will defend the supernaturals against those who would hunt and destroy or enslave them. It might turn out somewhat that way, but not by any real plan of Meri's (maybe she'll end up being like that antisuperhero Will Smith portrayed -LOL). Anyhow, she'll probably go back to her cover job (now her real one) at the Imperial Palace swing club, and try to live an everyday kind of life - it's just that whether you're talking about life or unlife, things have a way of happening whether you want them to or not...

Not meaning to introduce "furries" into the RP, necessarily, but there are several kinds of beings that could count as such (werewolves, for example). I'd kind of like to think that Brantley could fit in, in one of the nonhuman or half-human enclaves on the Duckpond - though I have no intention of bringing him into this. One Dire Creature player character at a time is enough for me.
