As a cat lover but not a cat owner (if one can be said to own cats - it's usually the other way round), I have to say sharing a house occasionally with someone else's cat is definitely the best way to go!
We've had this happen a couple of times and they've always been quite respectful of our stuff and very chilled. If you want a friend for life try sharing a bit of cooked chicken or  some tinned tuna..... I hope you and Ivan continue to enjoy each others company 😺
You have to tread a fine line between avant-garde surrealism and getting yourself sectioned...

I've got some tinned tuna ( I do love a tuna and salad cream sandwich)

I will give that a go next time (if) he visits.

Thanks for the advice Miss Cora.

Who on earth thought me of all people would be welcoming to a cat?

There you go.......

A bit of advice from a cat owner (well, his name is Stuart and I think he owns us)

Cats can only eat tuna in spring water safely. Cats mustn't eat tuna in oil or brine as these can cause health problems including liver failure. Choose a high-quality canned tuna product, and ensure there is no salt, seasonings or additives. Canned tuna is only safe for cats in small amounts, occasionally.

Other things cats must not eat include raisins, onion, garlic, caffeine, cow's milk, alcohol, cooking dough, chocolate, raw fish, raw eggs and DOG FOOD.

But, contrary to what some believe, as obligate carnivores, cats can eat pork as long as it's in moderation and is cooked properly. In fact, pork provides the same kind of protein found in chicken or fish.

I hope that's helpful.

Christusdorn (Christ´s thorn if I found the correct translation), is also poisonous for cats, like all spurge plants.
I have no idea why our cat chose to eat what looks like barbed wire in a pot. She survived, she even had no symptoms that anything was wrong. Strange creature....
If brute force does not work....you´re not using enough of it.

Very helpful and thank you!

I've googled and cooked chicken meat (boneless/skinless) is OK, so I'll try a little of that in small portions. If he becomes a regular visitor I will take a stroll down the pet isle in my local asda next time I go shopping.

I don't want to kill him, I only just met him!

Thanks again for the advice.

Oh yes, sorry, I didn't think about the tuna as we only ever buy tuna in spring water.

No worries Miss Cora thanks for the tuna tip.  8)
I didn't even know of tuna in spring water.... Only in brine.
I've cooked up a chicken breast just in case, to try and tempt him.
See what happens.

Of course there is always the possibility that Ivan is related to Six Dinner Sid (I realise that's probably given you something else to google ...)

Just a quick update, Ivan is no longer welcome on my property......cats are cats and they hunt it's in the DNA.

He has been crapping in my garden and I saw him stalk and attack birds at the feeder.

So, I will chase the little killing machine away at every chance I get.

Back to square one.......... I really do not like felines.  :(

But if it was a dog, the same would be true for chasing squirrels and other small mammals!   Unfortunately that behavior is baked into the genetics of the animal.

I agree but don't, not wishing to be argumentative a dog can be trained and or kept on a lead (leash) to prevent attacks whereas cats roam free to slaughter at will. Anyway, not wishing to turn this into a thing and after the amount of feathers I found in the garden this morning (looks like a pigeon has been got), no more cats are now welcome for me. (sorry all cat lovers). I did try.

IMHO cats can - and should - be kept indoors. They are, after all, an invasive species.

Halfway between Gah! and Yay!

1. Having two days off in a row. But not being able to be outside for long, because it's already 35 C this spring.

2. Having a pool in the complex, but not being able to use it because the gate has a code I don't know, and the landlord is not in town until next week (I don't own, I just lease a room in a condo).

3. Having the time to be creative, but suffering from "Artist's Block"

I agree, cats invade our homes with the help of mind controlling purrs.

As I understand you. I prefer birds too.

And also, to be honest, I'm annoyed by this sugary story with cats.

Not only that, the neighborhood cats periodically roam around my site. at least they try to be inconspicuous.

But someone dropped a little kitten on our plots, and he's trying to survive. He's cute, I feel sorry for him. But I don't need him at all.  Now I need to make sure that this arrogant fool does not get into the barn or the house when I leave the cottage for Moscow. so that he wouldn't die of thirst.
Sorry for the errors, rudeness and stupidity. It's not me, this online translator. Really convenient?

I would never, ever harm or want to see any animal suffer in any way.

Although not that keen I would go out of my way to help a cat if in distress.

Agreed.  When we had 12 rescue cats we kept them all indoors for their own health and safety.
No one ever believed we had that many because most of them hid if someone visited.

"Why doesn't your house smell like dirty litter boxes?" they'd always ask, and I'd say "Because we aren't too lazy to keep the boxes clean".

QuoteThey are, after all, an invasive species.

So are humans. ;)  Please! Remember to spay and neuter your neighbors.

Have you never wondered what it would be like to walk between the ticks and tocks of Time?

Cats are cats.  I do like them but agree they are not really nice.
The best way to discourage him would probably be with a water pistol; we also have several plastic toy snakes on the grass ... they get moved every time the grass is cut ☺️. Yes I know it seems ridiculous, but they seem to work!

I've found a ballbearing catapult works well.(JOKING!)
I use the spray setting on my garden hose, a gentle shower seems to do the job of clearing the place.
I can never forget my dear old dad sitting up all night for weeks, open upstairs window with buckets of water by his side waiting.......

CAT! douse him! (bloody nutter my dad) ;D

He once bought one of those ultrasonic gizmos, my dog at the time went up and sniffed it then curled up beneath it and fell asleep, my dad said "different frequencies for dogs and cats" but I just thought na, don't work.

If I can't legally import and release a spitting cobra, I might just try the rubber snake approach in the favourite toileting spot.

Had a bit of a mixed day.

A freind phoned and told me he has colon and liver cancer......53....

My youngest neice gave birth to a healthy baby boy, both are well and doing fine.

So.... one in the world and one out shall we say.

I was looking forward to the weekend, only to find our my schedule was changed to have me go back to work on Sunday and that day off was traded for Friday next week.  So I have to work almost one more week to get a 3 day off weekend.
