[As some of you might know, I'm a Dutch EU student studying in England currently... I've joked a bit to my fellow uni friends how since the pound is plummeting I might spend less money on my tuition, but in reality I'm afraid. I'm very afraid. Not that I might not be able to finish my study there, but because of my living conditions I'll be having. Not even a full day after Brexit won the referendum with a slight majority, Europeans faced immediate racism in England. There were signs being put up saying "Europeans not welcome", Dutch people got told they are now "in foreign terrain" as to indicate how much we're not welcome there anymore. We're already being treated like scum and it's only been two days now after the referendum... I'm afraid to be discriminated and called names just because I'm not part of Britain, I'm afraid I'll be denied things I used to be able to take for granted, I'm even afraid I might get beaten up one day for being Dutch. Suspended fake wooden ceiling.
Removed that.

Whst did I find?

Cardbard holding the glass wool in place. Now I know why there was always that smell in the room.

Will have to take that stuff down (protective clothing required) and put some vapor barrier in there before the new ceiling can be fitted.
Takes more time than expected.

Removed a built-in cupboard. the "wall" behind it sounded funny.
It was only wood.
The window-sill (marble) was only held in place by two piles of loosely stacked bricks.
Glad I never sat on that sill....

Even more work.

Have to finish before wife´s birthday.  Time is getting short.

This is kinda getting really political, a no go here. (But appreciate the concern for all involved)

I must admit as of yesterday I have decided to stop any spare cash going toward steampunk projects, fripperies and purchases, so no more posting of new stuff for a while (in preparation for a potential shitstorm, keeping a roof over my head etc etc) The pound lowest for 30 years, FTSE in turmoil and the PM resigning..................  but this is not doomsday............ yet.

Its a UK vote so individual area statistics are pretty irrelevant.

Unfortunately you will always get that sort of reaction from a certain subset of any society.

However the euphoria of political "change" soon wears off, things go back to normal and everybody realises that nothing REALLY changes and all the crappy stuff is still there, and now there is some NEW crappy stuff to deal with as a result.

Same sort of thing happened when Obama won in the USA elections, the initial cry of "everything is different now - CHANGE! WE WON!" soon became "He's not "black" enough!" and "he's not even an American"...


There is a similar political swing in several of the E.U countries, such as the French and Dutch who both have strong Populist Right-Wing parties and many Eurosceptics. There is just as much danger of these countries finding themselves in a similar position to the UK is in now... It could happen just as quickly and easily, though for now all eyes will be on the UK to see how well we fair in the pull-out talks.

Right-Wing in the USA and UK / Europe are two very different beasts! The version of "Right-Wing" on this side of the pond are slightly more "foaming at the mouth" than the USA's 'Tea Party' - who are crazy as a box of frogs - though they do share a similar level of "Right-Wing" views.  And when you hit "Far-Right", it is somewhat closer to Godwin's Law than I usually care to be, if you catch my drift...

Bloody royal bloody mail!!!!

I have lived in my flat now for 6 years. In that time I kept getting post office accounts statements etc for the previous tenant. I would write on them "no longer at this address" and even, after about four years of it, broke into Anglo Saxon on the envelope. They sent a new bank card and I returned physically to a post office and told them. Then joy of joys a letter last year saying they would not send any more letters as there had been no activity on the account for more than five years. (I open all mail as its only me in the flat, the two cats don't get letters) peace at last I thought.

No. Another letter so I wrote on it 'stop harassing me or I will report you under the 1997 harassment act and the data protection act'. I posted it unopened and two days later the letter, minus the envelope, was posted through my door with an apology saying that the envelope was damaged in transit.

Today another letter.

I phoned them - nothing they could do as I'm not the account holder
I tweeted them - nothing they can do mark it return to sender
I emaild their customer care and got this gem

"Thank you for your email. Unfortunately the Post Office Money bracket covers many different departments and since we are unaware as to which department is sending the letters to you, we cannot inform them to stop. The best way to stop these letters from coming through to yourself is post the letter into a post box with "incorrect address" written on the envelope as stated by the Citizens Advice Bureau.

I am sorry that I can be of no further assistance regarding this matter."

Did the people who kept sending them out really care. and I offten wondered if there was anything really important in the envelopes, especially the official looking ones. Possibly shouldn't have shredded the stuff, but when it becomes junk mail to you ... !

My housemate grew up in this city a few miles away. His parents still live there and his sister lives four states down the coast. Yet somehow for no apparent reason we have started to get some of his mums, dads and sisters mail dropped into our mail box. I don't know if they have our address or not as I don't look that closely at it but either the post office is dropping mail off at the wrong address but with the right name surname or somehow catalogue companies and magazine subscriptions have had their records of the person who ordered from them changed.

they didn't actually put that down, but I applied to this job, I'm 20, and they wanted someone younger than 21 so that was okay. I have a good 5 years of experience in retail as my mother owns a shop and I usually get around helping.

The mere fact they are discriminating people based on age in a retail position is troublesome.  It may be legal in some countries, but it might be misconstrued as age discrimination.  Was the position open only to females? (I'm guessing here).
