Tiny republics have been discussed on BG  before.  I found a couple more  in the papers today. The Uzupis Republic adjacent to Lithuania and Sealand, off the British Coast. What would be the pro and cons  of being a citizen  of one of these sectors?

I think I would prefer my own despotic (firm but fair) monarchy!!

From the admittedly low survey numbers, we are an independent minded bunch!

The woman on BG are a quite  strident and  stroppy   bunch

Which is as it should be!

I would be a benevolent despot, but cross me at your peril!! ;D

Here is  a republic near here. Whangamomona.  Caught between 2 regions and on the forgotten highway.  The only President of any  longevity  is a woman. Everyone else mysteriously died in office. Citizens hold an annual  Republic Day.

All the best legendary rulers if infamy are women.  Queen of Hearts, Cleopatra, Elizabeth I, Catherine the Great, Maggie Thatcher, Angela Merkel,

Riiight!  Equally mysterious, every time a president disappered, a new tasty dish made its appearance at the local restaurant's menu... ::)

Kevin Baugh. President of Molossia

QuoteTerritory[edit]

Border sign, Harmony Province.
Molossia consists of three properties (previously four) that are owned by Baugh, in the contiguous United States and comprising a total area of 6.3 acres (2.5 ha): Harmony Province, located near Dayton, Nevada, is the smallest of Molossia's territories, at little more than one acre (4,000 m2) in size. It is the Baugh family's primary place of residence, and the site of Molossia's designated capital, Baughston. Baughston was renamed from Espera on 30 July 2013 to commemorate President Baugh's 51st birthday.[6] The United States of America's street address for Kevin Baugh's house is 226 Mary Lane Road, Dayton, Nevada 89403

The Sealand Fort  is an interesting principality. The Maunsell and Spitbank forts  are also intriguing.   They eminatate villainous  subterfuge and conspiracy.

I remember watching a TV programme about Veterinary students a while back. Set in the UK it followed the students through training and into their jobs. One couple eventually went to the Caribbean. It was going to be glorious - diving and sitting in the sun etc... A few years later they admitted; "The island gets smaller and smaller each year."

Having lived in small, isolated towns in Australia I can testify to the toxic nature of these tiny "republics". Would I live in one? NO, NO, NO!

I would call it "Mine"!

I have my mini-republic. My very own 0.13ha, with bijou palace and outbuildings!
Abt 50 metres from my eastern boundary is my moat a creek, & 800 metres from my (admittedly high) back fence is the northern part of my moat a river. The land between my boundary & the river is perpetual agricultural floodplain, and cannot be built upon. I have one side neighbour, and a 90metre-odd easement at the front - so 3/4 natural boundaries for my mini-republic! Front gates are the drawbridge, inner gates the portcullis - if the gates at the front are open, the drawbridge is down - if the gates are shut, woe betide any varlet, brigand or JW who crosses the threshold!!

Actually, I rather fancy something regal - Ria, perhaps (being female). Having only a small kingdom, I will forego the "Ard"!

That's handy to have natural borders  on your republic. It keeps the rif raf out

Nice cars.  ;D

They  certainly set the tone. The pub is world famous in New Zealand.  It attracts  rallies  and  tours of all manner of vehicles.  Buses, bicycles, motor cycles, off road,  hot rod, vintage and farm.

Let's not overlook the (now) Principality of Hutt River.

I think it might be fun to declare war on, say, America, lose, then claim reconstruction aid. Oh, it's been done ...

Those are interesting links. There is a Hutt River in New Zealand. They are a bit of a law unto themselves in that neck of the woods
