By the power of caffeine do I set my mind in motion
By the Beans of Life do my thoughts acquire speed
My hands acquire a shaking
The shaking becomes a warning
By the power of caffeine do I set my mind in motion

Happy Thanksgiving, oh, mapled ones!

And I think this is my signal to start thinking about the post for Allhallowtide...

Hez

Happy Thanksgiving!
Today I am grateful indeed.

Do you have people in Canada who want to ruin Thanksgiving like we have in the United States?

We don't allow discussions of politics at the dinner table. :P

Or did you mean something else?

As far as I know all Canadians are in favour of long weekends.

The American Thanksgiving holiday as declared by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. Later, school children were taught the the Pilgrims Plymouth colony celebrated a similar feast as a one-time event in 1621, and eventually is became "common knowledge" that the Pilgrims invented the holiday.

And then the perpetually indignant came along. In 1675, the Plymouth colony was involved in King Philip's War against the native tribes in the region. Or as the anti-Thanksgiving people explain it, the Pilgrims had a feast with the native people, then killed them. Never mind that the events were separated by two generations.

And then there are the people who don't get along with their families, and therefore there shouldn't be any holidays for people who do like to get together with their families.

I'm surprised to learn that these people don't exist in Canada.

Not having Pilgrim fathers we trace our Thanksgiving back to the British Harvest Festival (Our shorter growing season being the reason for the mid October date) so we have less to be indignant about.

"Damn that wheat! Pushing out all our native grasses!" :P
I speak in syllabubbles. They rise to the surface by the force of levity and pop out of my mouth unneeded and unheeded.
Cry "Have at!" and let's lick the togs of Waugh!
Arsed not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for tea.

Happy Thanksgiving to you lot. Sorry, been a hot minute since I've been around again (nearly 2 years). Health took another ding (but I live)!

Anyone have any grand plans? This'll be my first year actually roasting anything. I'm doing a ham, gonna bake some mac'n'cheese, the kiddo is doing some green beans. The nesting partner is baking a pie. Outside that, we've got a lovely evening in planned.
No, no, girliepop, I GIVE advice, I don't TAKE it, not even my own.

The World's a Stage. The CAST is garbage.

It long ago occurred to me that the United States was founded by religious extremists while Canada was founded by drunken lumber jacks and womanizing fur traders. I think the differences are still evident. :P
