How do you feel about fruitcake?

I've never tried fruitcake.
I can't stand fruitcake.
I have regifted fruitcake.
I like fruitcake.
I do everything in my power to reduce the world's supply of fruitcake.

I must disagree, Xenos! Nourishing and sustaining, a wodge of rich fruit cake of light or dark persuasion sticks to the ribs and keeps one ticking over quite nicely 'til teatime!

Know what else does that? A good dark beer. All without being full of those wretched tree nuts that'll just up and kill me.

You can have fruit cake without nuts - you can even have fruit cake without fruit! I think that is just called cake, with alcohol!

You had me at alcohol...
No, no, girliepop, I GIVE advice, I don't TAKE it, not even my own.

It is time once again to raise this question: Is fruitcake the food of the Gods or the spawn of the Devil?

We have been indulging in a bit of Bishops Bread of late. It is pretty much nuts, glacé fruit and a little intoxicated dried fruit mixed with the bare amount of cake mix to stick it together.

Not evil, really good!

As always, all unwanted fruitcake will be gratefully received  :)

I've had horrible fruitcake, and I've had really good fruitcake that was 75% pecans. It can be good or evil, like Godzilla.

I guess that's true, but it would depend how you cooked Godzilla...

My sister made a half-batch of my mother's fruitcake recipé, and ended up with three cakes.

It's clear that fruitcake is self-replicating.

We are down to our last half of Bishop's Bread, but I still have a container of drunken (dried) fruit so will make some more. I make lots of small cakes and small Bishop's Bread then put them in the freezer. Somehow or other the process of freezing the cake melds the flavour and distributes the moisture so there is never a dry edge or soggy middle. All very scientific...  ;D

Yet again, I raise the question: is fruitcake good or evil? I have dedicated myself to reducing the world's stock of fruitcake, but I understand that there are those who would see fruitcake stockpiled, preferably in an abandoned mine shaft...

I guess over the centuries people forgot that fruitcake was the original Yule Log.  You're supposed to burn it .

Cora Courcelle

It's good. It always has been. It always will be. Good.

It's a bit like the weather in California.

The weather is nice.  It's nice every day. It's nice in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. It never rains on Valentine's Day and Independence Day. It's never cold on Thanksgiving Day, and there's no snow on Christmas Day. It's always the same no matter what time of the year it is. It's nice in Spring, Summer, Autumn... and Win...ter... Huh.

Fruitcake doesn't require alcohol in it. It is a fruit cake, not a rum cake.

Sir Henry

My mother-in-law gave us two of her traditional fruitcakes this year. Less than a week after my wife and son were advised (for diabetic reasons) to go on a low carb, no sugar diet. Which, in turn, was less than a week after we did the big Xmas food shop.

I've lost 30lb. in the last 3 months. I should have found them all again by New Year. :P
I speak in syllabubbles. They rise to the surface by the force of levity and pop out of my mouth unneeded and unheeded.

It's not actually required to eat them straight away - ah, no, wait a moment, got that totally wrong; it should have read eat the fruitcake now!!!
But really, massive congratulations on your (weight) loss.

We love fruitcake but leave the nuts out.  (texture issue for him, allergies for me.)  When we told the wedding caterer that we were having a traditional wedding cake she said "If you're not having an edible wedding cake you'll need another dessert."  So we added another dessert and had lots of leftover cake for us.
