A few years ago I wrote a book of vehicles for a Victoria Science Fiction setting. It was mainly an excuse to learn more about the topic (engine design, transmission systems, and the like). I thought I would share some of the results with the group:

That was interesting! Well done! More diesel than steam, but that's ok .

Thanks! All of these designs were steam powered, but you are right that the aesthetic is verging more on diesel. The book is set in the late Victorian, so things are starting to blend.

This is actually getting to be a bit of challenge in the setting. We're trying to advance the history and keep a 'Victorian' feel, but I'm worried the technology is pushing things in different directions. If you have any thoughts on how to navigate this, I'd be interested.

thank!

Ah I stand corrected ... I should have said "diesel-ish"

Regarding a more "steamy" design, I see your designs are Stark to the point of harsh, right angled, use a large number of rivets ... Very industrial with no astheticsin place.

I would contrast those with the scrollwork embellished designs like the Victorian pumphouse seen here

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for future projects. Our current work is a catalog of equipment, and I've been trying to make some of the things more decorative.

Here's a draft if you're interested:

This is fascinating! Very well done! I particularly appreciate the detailed physics involving heat transfer and inertia, things that are seldom addressed!

Thanks! You've made my day! Most folks tend to get scared off by the mere mention of thermodynamics.
