Can I get confirmation on what is going on at the moment?

As I understand it, our fine von Corax and Sorontar are now Admin, The Corsair has purchased a new domain, many thanks for stepping into the roles, the forum as is, will be transported completely to the new brassgoggles.net domain in the next month or so.

Does that mean we are safe and can start posting again without fear of everything being lost?

Is there a new paypal account set up for monthly donations to the new management, the old one being null and void?

Basically is my second home on the internet safe from previous concerns of total annihilation and am I able to now contribute monthly to the continuation of the forum staying on line.

Many thanks, and bloody fine job everyone.

Seven.

von Corax

You pretty much have it. There is not currently a donation channel, as I want to complete the move and check into the tax implications before I do anything in that direction.

As soon as you sort that all out, let us know.........

I for one will gladly contribute.

I think we need to be careful here and define what changing domain really means for our members. That's just how you locate Brassgoggles on the internet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unless I've missed details on the communication between moderators, we're still undecided where Brassgoggles' physical location will be. We have an agreement to get a time extension on the original servers beyond February, but we're still -both- looking for alternative hosting services (the ones to run the servers, ie the physical computers that hold Brassgoggles) and in discussions with the original host, who has graciously handed us the whole key set for Brassgoggles, am I right? Or has there been further progress?

You have the details correct. I had taken a few days off from the hosting search due to a funeral, but am ready to resume.

I completely understand the implications of changing domains, but we really have no choice. brassgoggles.co.uk and brassgoggles.org are still held by proteus. They expire in (I think) September and there's no certainty we'd be able to snatch them when they go up for sale, at which point we would drop off the map. (I have placed a backorder on brassgoggles.org, but even that is not a sure thing.) In the mean time, the old domains will continue to point at the-wizard's boxen, and I'm sure he could be persuaded to put up a "We've Moved" page for us.

I do maybe have a phone number for proteus, but I'm still trying to convince myself that it would not be too stalkerish to try it.

The way I see it, Proteus called for a new Admin then left us all hanging in limbo for 2 years unobtainable.

You have achieved outstanding results in the circumstances, cap firmly doffed, Sir!

If you have a possible contact phone number, try it and see if any answer and if he is in fact still alive.

PS. Totally understandable if you need to take some time for yourself and family considering your sad recent loss.
