So... this is a new thread dedicated to contemporary photos. Any subject is valid, as long as the thread becomes a window to your physical surroundings, and you are the author of the photo. These are literally snapshots of your environment.

"Modern Mordor"
Ominous overcast morning over Downtown Austin. Made me stop on my tracks to get the photo. The image is in full color. It hasn't been modified in any way save for a bit of sharpening.

"Modern Mordor"
Snip

"Moody" I like it.

If you turned 180 degrees, you would have seen a lot of green. But it was very dark with clouds even at 9 am and the patch of grey called my attention. Very foggy.

Sometimes I get a surprise or two. No image processing done other than the automatic HDR correction of the smartphone camera.

The first photo looks like either cotton wool in the sky or that some interdimensional portal is about to open.

It's one of the three most interesting phenomena I've encountered while living in Austin. The other two were a "Sun Dog" (Parhelion), and a small funnel cloud descending toward me!!

Australis has been putting on a surreal display in the evening skies these past few months. New Zealand doesn't often get this light show. The increased solar waves have been creating a glorious  display  . Photo taken last month

These  images are all wondrous and inspiring. Keep it flowing .

{ Coming from the real Lord of the Rings backdrop, the Modern Mordor has an intensity and depth that paits ours as a pale imitation}

What a wonderful specimen of a Punkuautus volkswagieni! Is that from the late Jurassic Period?
