I'm very much in love with the Myst games except for Uru, they are gorgeous and wonderous. Other then that Morrowind and Oblivion.

Pound it for Elder Scrolls love!  (Although there's a notable shortage of steam in Oblivion...)

Speaking of Alice, I'm very much looking forward to playing it--the entire premise screams out to my warped sensibilities.  I see that there's a movie in production...

I have both the latest ES games in their Game of the Year formats. Both are excellent, but I still wish for some way to inject Oblivion's combat system into Morrowind! (or rather, the Dwemer into Oblivion - doesn't some of the lore mention that the Dwemer did have  Speaking of that, I've been meaning to learn to mod for a while to build a steampunk manor for my characters...

The goblin warrens section of Dungeon Siege is excellent, and the expansion pack, Legends of Aranna, has an awesome clockpunk section near the end, once again with goblins. That had to be my favourite section of those games. I want to try Silverfall, although none of the screenshots I've seen look too steamy - DS-type steamy maybe? I downloaded and installed the demo for Arcanum (several times), but the blasted thing won't work! It's a shame, I do really want to play it.

Fanstatic Journey by Empire Interactive (SP theme). Music sounds "fuzzy" on my Babbage, even with good sound cards.

Also Time Shock also by Empire Interactive (Time travel theme.) Nice music,  if only I could find it on line.  .

I have legit "Poundshop" copies, they work though and that's all that matters.

For those who have played Arcanum...is it worth downloading?  I heard there were some big bugs with the game.  Also, how good is the steampunk part of it?  Is it like, "oh hey, this guy has a pistol and a wrench" and thats the extent of the steampunk influence?

Curious if it runs on Vista...

It's very steampunk - the basic idea behind the game is an industrial revolution in a fantasy world.

However, it's a bit like marmite (which funnily enough I despise) in that people seem to love it or hate it. The combat isn't great, though it's improved by using the Fallout-like turn-based system rather than the default 'real-time' combat, and I thought the plot was excellent, as is the crafting system.

So yes, I'd say it's definitely worth downloading.

The death of teh cat was so senseless and shockingly unexpected.  It quite got to me at the time, possibly one of the highlights of the game for me.

Vale of Tears, and to a lesser extent, Wonderland Woods, really annoy me. Especially the long trek downstream and following the Mock Turtle underwater. He could have made that journey much shorter and in less time, but no, he doesn't even know where to go from the amount of doublebacking he does!

Looking Glass Land and everything afterwards make up for those two, though, by a wide margin. I had shades of the film Labyrinth when you get to the Maze.

I guess it's bad that I only realised how to mantle properly after taking a long break from it to play the Thief series.

Revival desperately needed. I just dug out Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds, the 1998 PC strategy game. Directing your ground forces from a zeppelin, providing long range reconnaissance for the Formidable class ironclads and shocking raids made by your armoured track-layers (known as tanks in our timeline) is one side. The other side would be a daring attack on Earth led by the Martian forces. I always play the Human side though. It's that much more rewarding to beat the Martians with large numbers of inferior units.

One of the best games ever made imo is The Last Express.

Not massivly steam punk (although set in the orient express) but it has some amazing artwork and a fair few bits of clockwork goings on.  I cannot recommend this enough.

Seen many times I know but I have just uploaded a better version.

This is introduction from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds RTS PC game.

The original is very low quality and very small in width and height. It was also bundled in a format that was not available to all systems. So, I have extracted the video from the Bink FMV files bundled with the PC game, removed the interpolation that caused the weird horizontal lines and have created a new version with smoother and less jagged video.

The quality is not up to modern standards but we aren't going to get any better unless the chap who worked on the game lets the originals go free, given that the two companies that created the game went bust the rights and ownership to the original images and videos is probably now in dispute. I have access to some of the original game code through an old contact but the videos? I doubt that we will see the originals ever, certainly for the moment this is probably the best you will get.

Looks a lot better when played in a larger form than shown here. Watch it in full screen. One day I may recreate these videos given time, a fair wind and a source of cash. This particular video still has the power to reduce my two younger children to terrified hysterics.
