We now have separate sub-boards for 2D artwork (eg. paintings, sketches) and 3D artwork (2D images of sculpture &c.), and I need to develop posting guidelines for the two boards. The question is, should computer-generated renderings of 3D computer models (which are essentially 2D images) be considered 2D artwork or 3D artwork? Weigh in below!

I am thinking of it this way. If someone shows me a 3D model design, should that be treated any differently to a photo of the actual model if printed? Does the object have to be tangible and real to be regarded as 3D? What about clothing design versus photos of the actual clothing? How is that any different?

Note that the photo wouldn't be the focus, the content of the photo would be.

I will have to think on this.
