Without a doubt, I am personally very much in this for the painting and personalising of what is basically a collection of figurines.
I also like to read the lore books... but I'm not all that interested in the game. I'll play if someone wants me to but like, i'm not seeking them out

I subject that came up on my facebook feed: What foods are still sold in metal tins with reclosable metal lids?

There used to be a lot of cookies and chips in tins at Asian grocery stores in America, but I don't recall seeing much lately, though I haven't really been looking.

I think this subject is germane to steampunk, especially in regard to foods, crafts, and costuming.

My apartment euphoria has turned into apartment dysphoria.

I'm contending with the consequences of a natural disaster at my brand new rental.  Not more than three days had passed since I took possession of the new unit, when Austin suffered a large freak storm, referred to as a "micro burst" which for all practical purposes means a small "vertical hurricane" which deposited baseball sized hailstones with damaging winds measuring 75 miles per hour, and 3 inches of rain in less than 45 minutes (more like 20 in my area).

The result was flash floods, innumerable fallen trees, stalled cars in standing water, and power failures that lasted a week.

While the damage to my building was small, my bedroom saw water come in from the concrete slab of the exterior wall, turning the carpet into a giant wet sponge.

Management failed to address the issue and I spent two days sucking the dirty water from the carpet using a wet vacuum cleaner I had to purchase myself.

I am now in "escalation mode" with management, as near one week after the fact has passed, and management has not done a thing.  No inspection of foundation, no inspection under base board moulding, no pulling of the carpet and associated pad.

The carpet dried in 3 days, but now that carpet strongly smells like a wet dog.  I find myself living in my bedroom and pondering having to hire an independent contractor to do the job and/or legal action against the landlord.

I have no money to do any of this.

Welcome to the Forum, Dragon Scientist! Definitely I look forward to your interpretation of a Nature Scientist and better if you want to contribute aesthetically to the Belle Epoch, Gilded Age aesthetic.

I guess that'd be the second expert in the natural sciences after one of my characters (yes, I have more than one), Admiral Johannes Wilhelm.  I'm sure you'd be interested in a tour of the USAS Orca Research Vessel, dedicated to the exploration of far away lands and atmospheric research from the troposphere to the lower stratosphere

At your service,

Adm. Johannes Wilhelm
United States Airship Command

Going to start creating a character as a creative writing. One piece at a time over a long time. Each week I'll answer a self asked question regarding the character, and hopefully these developments will evolve a character over time.

Let me know where I need to go more steampunk, or need to bother with consistency.

So, first up name: Yo'rath
Species: Catfolk.

what does your hero look like?
Manicured tiger fur pattern, and golden eyes. Two ear rings on right ear, one gold and the other silver; both close to skin to not get caught or snagged.
Wears a coat that conceals his cog load pistol and light body armour. Along with wallet, travel papers, and the kin.
Barely speaks, but when he does it's soft spoken with a grizzle to his voice, like a soft spoken smoker.

Ladies and Gentleman,

after a long time of silently admiring the beauty and creativity, both in creating a phantastic world, as well as physical goods, I dedicded to finally stop lurking, take the plunge and sign up, in the hope to turn some of that weird thoughts from my mind into words, drafts and perhaps physical stuff. As a very aesthetically oriented person, the victorian era, even more so when the Art Nouveau movement took the command, is to me the most enjoyable era when it comes to arts, fashion and architecture. Things do not have to be of any use, as long as they are aesthetically pleasing!

Anyways, I digress. For a good year or so, I already got the abstract idea of a character on my mind, who's story, background, adventures, looks and equipment I'd like to work out. As you might have guessed from my nickname, its about a nature scientist, who's field of research are dragons, and for that purpose, travels the world, often by airship, meets all kind of people and uses the latest in steam technology (admittingly, it radiates a bit of a fantasy).

Personally, I'm 47 y/o and live where the borders of Germany, Belgium and the Never Netherlands meet.

Cheers!
