Wierdly, both the milliner and my wife agree that the grey of the hat brings out the colour of my eyes. Not quite what I expected of a hat.

I lashed out and bought myself a quality-made grey fedora today from a local milliner. It is grey and made in the panama hat style (ie., handwoven straw, not felt), so it is that little bit different. I don't buy things like this often, but this should last at least 10 years (and my wife very much approves of it!).

Quote from: Sorontar on June 05, 2025, 11:02:02 AMDoes he appreciate music? If so, which style and how does he react to it?
If I may extend this, does he dance, sing or perform?
His music appreciation lies with jazz and blues, but to the extent that it is more interested in the establishments that incorporates such music than the music per se. He does not dance, sing, or perform.

sooooo someone bopped me on the head and gave me a fancy bit of paper

I was sitting quietly in my kitchen scrolling when I read this.  Startled my husband when I put both arms up and went WOOHOO!! I'm proud of you.

Congratulations!  ;D  ;D  ;D

A hard-earned reward, I have no doubt.

(I have a picture of my daughter holding a similar piece of paper just around the corner from there)

Quote from: J. Wilhelm on June 27, 2025, 05:26:00 AMThe bedroom in my new apartment no longer smells of mold after the freak storm event weeks ago, and no longer smells of wet dog either, now it merely smells like a 1970s southern American motel (old cigarettes).

Open containers of activated charcoal and baking soda will absorb odors. There's no better spray for removing odors from the air than spraying regular isopropyl alcohol around.

I've also seen someone place a large pan of water in the middle of the offending room, then dump a large scoop of Oxyclean in the water and it "boiled". When the "boiling" stopped, they added another scoop until the odor was gone (which took days, but it eventually worked).

Sounds interesting.  I've even thought of building a "false floor" like decking on top of the carpet, just in case this happens again.  The storm was a freak storm; a "microburst" with downward winds of 75 mph, and I don't know how many inches of rain in 15 minutes.  It created instant flooding in the area and broke many trees.
