Hey Cubinoid love the video but love the music more.

Is that the old Great Northern Hotel by any chance next to Kings Cross / St.Pancras?

I did some filming there doing 'links' for a Film 4 'Vampire' season a few years back.
The legs have fallen off my Victorian Lady...

Indeed it is! A wonderful building isn't it?
Good to hear there is someone else here interested in film - are you more of a camera operator or more of a vampire?

Thank you Rockula, glad you like it!

For those interested, our slightly odd music is available here:
http://www.cdbaby.com/all/benhenderson
or on iTunes...

We don't make a lot of money from our music, but it does give us a thrill when someone likes it or buys a few songs!

Hey Cubinoid,
I'll certainly be looking for your music.

But as to the filming I was the other side of the camera being interviewed because of my interest in vampire movies. I did a days filming with Ingrid Pitt, Fenella Fielding, a couple of 'academics' and some other friends from the vampire clubs.
We did about 7 'link' shorts that have been shown quite regularly on Film 4 and Channel 4 everytime they have an excuse to show a vampire season of movies.
The director was Jake West who made 'Razorblade Smile', 'Evil Aliens' and, most recently 'Doghouse' with Danny Dyer.
The building was freezing.
The legs have fallen off my Victorian Lady...

Interesting...I wonder if you know my neighbour Clive Popkin? He's a member of the Dracula society and heavily into that scene...

Might I mention our own band or would that be self indulgent?

We are called Moth. (Not to be confused with the USA band of the same name)

I've posted this before, but for those that haven't seen our little video yet:

Steampunk Tree Snow

(First post, hello!) Cubinoid, this is fantastic! I Love it.

There's some great stuff in this thread. My personal favourite steampunk discovery of recent days is Sunday Driver. I know they've already been mentioned, but I think they deserve another mention!

Is it too cheeky to suggest my own little effort?

Thank you, Mr. Slatter, and welcome to the thread!
We enjoyed making the robots a lot, and the video was just great fun to make. Glad you like Moth -
(Do check out our latest video, "Written in Stone" as well, should you get time - link below)

We enjoyed meeting up with Sunday Driver at their last performance in London - you're right - they are an excellent band too - highly recommended.

I shall definitely be downloading the Spinning the Compass album too! Thank you for the link!

Can any of you musical types direct me towards an 'idiots guide' on how to set up your own Podcast things?
I've got the music, and the time, and the inclination to do a Steampunk friendly (but not strictly Steampunk) kind of radio show.
....but I don't even have my own website.

Hey Rockula, in case you haven't already started setting up a podcast, there's a guide to podcasting in the latest uk Computer Music, came out last week.  I haven't seen it yet, but it's probably quite good... link to the contents is here.

Not sure if Dr. Steel is mentioned here, but his music and mad scientist persona are pretty interesting.

Apologies - I have mentioned this before...but:

I forgot to mention where you can get the music if you want to have some for yourself...
so I'll try again (salesmanship is not my long suit)
Ahem.

Moth are proud to announce their music video for "Written in Stone"
If you haven't seen it, please feel free to take a look!
Spoiler: ShowHide

Written in Stone

Written in Stone is from the Moth album Fruit Machine Scenario.

And here is an annoying advert:

Enjoy!

Very cool! I love this! :D

I went to see Emilie Autumn last night, was amazing.

Also my band has just uploaded a new song here if anybody's interested in listening. :-)

Great thread.  Caspar, I really enjoy Dimension Of Tears. I also really dig the video for Written in Stone also Cubinoid, keep it up!

Benedict

Absolutely fascinating!
As a relative new comer to steampunk and steampunk music, I've found all these thoughts and opinions very educational.

Since I'm here, I might as well draw attention to my own attempt at making steampunk music:

Journey Into Steam

Thanks!

I'd recommend Birdeatsbaby. They're a cabaret quintet and some of their pieces are quite dark. One of the darker ones is The Trouble

I've just released my début album today. There are elements of steampunk within my music (definitely in my band but this is my solo work).
I'd love to know what you guys think about it if anyone finds the time. :)

What about Chris Vrenna's soundtrack to American McGee's Alice?  Eerie with plenty of clockworks!

I liked that - very moody...reminded me of film music...

I'm fairly surprised no one has mentioned Kaizer's Orchestra yet. They're a Norwegian band who have an affinity for gas masks and writing lyrics about the Mafia, and their music can be lighthearted to some of the most depressing stuff you've ever heard, but I personally think they're wonderful and fit quite well in the "steampunk" category.

The oh-so-knowledgeable Wikipedia describes their music as "fast-paced gypsy rock and 'Balkan brass,'" and they're quite industrial/grungy sounding. They use accordions, oil drums, and brass and string instruments, as well as your typical rock instruments. (Oh and ladies (and fabulous men), did I mention they're handsome? I don't know if they're single, but we at least have pictures.)

Below the spoiler are a few of the steamiest tracks, but they have a wide variety of music, so listen away! :D

There are oh so many more I'd like to share with you all, but I will instead leave you to peruse at your leisure.

Veni Vidi Vinci

How comes I couldn't find Daedelus on the first post's list yet? He's mighty mention-worthy.

His musical work is quite a thing to describe. I'd say he moves somewhere inbetween experimental electronic, acoustic ambient and swing music. Each song has a unique atmosphere to it but always keeps a touch of being hand made and antique. I might suggest searching up the three tracks Aplomb, Taking Wing and Fallen Love on youtube for examples.

P.S.: In case of anyone's ears and brain feeling attracted enough to purchase his music - his first three releases Invention (2002), Of Snowdonia (2004) and Exquisite Corpse (2005) are a lot better than the later ones.

i also saw emilie autumn for the first time this year :D it was amazing. can't wait to see her again next year ^_^ but i noticed that she does not have a official musicvideo? or does she?

there is also this frensh female singer called emilie simon..she makes electro pop music wich is not exacly steampunk but her latest album has a stampunk feel to it. it is called the big machine and i love it :D she even wears a steampunk like costume on the cover of the album.
