Name Change Requests

Name change requests are generally not accepted.

There are several reasons:

• Self-service name changes enable spammers and other misbehaving persons to hide more easily from moderation
• Name changes make it harder to track and search conversations
• Honoring every name change request would put an undue burden on administrators

In exceptional circumstances, we do honor name change requests; for example, if your chosen username associates you with an employer and you need to change it to avoid disciplinary action. Other situations would include if your name is discovered to be offensive in another language, or if you would like your name to more-closely reflect your gender identity.
