Steampunk in the News- what the papers say...

There's a picture in today's Metro of a couple (a man and his 10yr old daughter) looking resplendant in their steampunk attire photographed at Whitby this past weekend. Of course The Metro labels them as 'Goths' because it was the WGW....

Yes, I saw that too. Firstly I thought: "My, they are looking splendid." then my right side brain engaged thinking...... "ah metro press with 2 steamy people at a Goth event.... I do hope no one takes this the wrong way". Then sense resurfaced: "It's a picture of 2 people, you take from it what you want too. Which has no bearing on what it IS; which is a photograph of 2 people BEING SPLENDID!"

Thought consummated,  I turned to Nemi and all was right with the world.  

Do any of us know them? Their names are in the paper?

Of all the things in this world a parent can get their child involved in, steampunk is one of the gentler and much less psychologically scarring than some I could mention. Sure beats freezing to death on the terraces.

They've actually done a few on Steampunk, including how Steampunk is a good way to protect your virginity. As Rockula has said elsewhere, the pieces show a degree of knowledge and are probably written by a closet Steampunk

Anyway taking this satire at face value, beauty alone is possible but its effect is lessened without the structure to support it. A few hours a week studying the works of the Marquess_of_Queensberry, avoid this tawdry fiction from becoming a tragic reality.

In an ideal world no one should have to fight for a look or even a thought for that matter. It is regrettable, but not unsurprising, that this is not the case.

(a little off topic, but about what the news says in general about Steampunk).

Galveston, Texas every year does something called "Dickens on the Strand" in honor of Charles Dickens. It's a Christmas celebration and in the last few years Steampunk has been welcomed there.

The link is an article on it, however, the picture is not steampunk, but rather general carolers.

I caught the end of a local (London) news report about a 'neo Victorian exhibition' at (I think) the Guildhall. Caught a glimse of what appeared to be Herr Doktor's Victorian Space helmet.

Just Googled it...

Funny thing is, while I was at art college, everytime I was asked what anything I produced represented, I replied "Man's inhumanity to man"...
