Really great photographs selectedgrub! I really like that photo of the Pump House. And you say this is in New Zealand, eh? Just another reason to try and make it out to your wonderful country. With the way the ruins are, it almost seems like you live on top of some ancient civilization or something. Really cool. Thanks for sharing.

It is a beautiful place there.  Very restful .

I read it was tapu.
They wrapped Maori in leaves and left them in caves., Apparently.

I wasn't aware of that - but it could be true.   

I know it gets called Ishimoto  instead of its proper name   , for what ever reason

One of the back roads to it is called that.
Might be the reason?

If I am not mistaken I believe this is the Northern Club.
The Northern Club Building has a long history of association with the Auckland's social elite, having been built in 1867.
It was constructed as the Royal Hotel, before becoming a gentlemen's club two years later.

Entry did you say Entry - sorry No! - One had to be invited and then only if one is a gentleman with very deep pockets.
We did have a female member of Parliament speak there for breakfast once, but knowing what she looks like that was a very easy mistake to make.

I am not sure if it is still used, looking at Grubs photos, I would say not. A gentleman would never let his garden get into that state. (looking out the window at my jungle - shakes head in dismay)

I do know that the Historic Places Trust has its fingers in the pie somewhere.
I just noticed that there are more windows and an extra chimney in the later pictures.

I like it when it's in full bloom too but it's not as daunting.
The sun was behind at the time of day I went.
For all the dodging of traffic I did trying to take full views from the middle of that busy intersection I didn't get any worthy.
I'll go back one day soon.
Some awesome architecture in the city.
