Many many years ago I started this thread with the hope that it would be a good resource for the UK community. Since then I've got less and less active, and it's been nearly three years since last I posted. Stricken with guilt, I shall now get it up to date and set up notifications so that future suggestions are quickly added. If I disappear for a long time again in the future, feel free to resurrect this somewhere else and keep it up to date. Please also note that I've not checked the links, so if they're dead, or if the shops have gone, let me know!

It occurred to me that it would be a good idea to have a catalogue of shops where nice steampunky things could be bought in the UK. We seem to have less choice than other countries and some shared knowledge could be a good idea.
Ideally, the list should be mainly high-street shops or the like, so that it is relevant for the most people, but feel free to point out good specialist shops or UK-based websites.
Obviously, this kind of thing would be good for other countries, so if anyone feels inclined to do the same...
I'll try and sort it into categories. Hopefully if we have enough input this will become useful. At the moment, I only really have one note-worthy shop, but if everyone keeps track of where they have got their finds from...

Not national but if you're ever in Cardiff there's a nice vintage clothes shop called 'Lipstick, Powder and Lace' that has a range of (mostly female) clothing from Victorian onwards.  Luckilly the owner is my former design lecturer so I managed to convince her to start stocking cravats.

not a high street store, but a cataloque shop- TOAST have in the past had some very elegant lines which would compliment steampunk dress very well.  infact, i've put together whole steampunk outfits purely from toast clothes. and their sales are amazing if you act fast enough- i got a £114 pair of jodhpurs for £14 (unfortunately, this season's lines arent that special... a few nice pieces though)

Marks & Spencers are doing a Christmas gift small bottle of port, of which I got three last year and another three this year so far, and they make wonderful victorian/steampunk props as they are about 6 to 8 inches high, clear glass with no imprints, and a wood and cork stopper. Very nice. The port is nice too   And only 3.99 each down from 5.00
