So who else out there plays Pokémon Go? For that matter, who plays any of the other Pokémon games? What got you started? Why do you keep playing? Do you want to be Friends? (I need one more Friend to advance in the Celebi Special Research quest. )

Why did I start? Curiosity. After reading repeated Pokémon references in several webcomics, and hearing the early hype around Pokémon Go, I just wanted to see what all the excitement was about. I have kept playing because, as I mentioned somewhere else, the game allows me to indulge my compulsion to collect things without clogging up my closets.

Anyone else?

(I'm posting this in Off-Topic rather than Meta-Clubs because I just can't figure out how to make Pokémon relevant to Steampunk. Anyone willing to prove me wrong?)

My coglet started to watch Pokemon on TV. Saw that there was the game available to down load on posh phones etc. I got the game to get some exercise, and that's about it really.

That would be Magnemite/Magneton? I hadn't really thought about it, but I see your point. There's also Milotic, which has a lovely Art Nouveau flair, and the Alolan Golem looks like it has a missile launcher on its back.

amongst our favorites are
ghost in the shell, cowboy bebop, darker than black, codebreaker,  last exile,  durarara, drifters, gangsta, , psychopass, bungo stray dogs, steam guy j,
inuyasha, otogizoshi, rouruni kenshin, udon no kuni,  kamisama hajime, fukigen na mononokean, noragami, ookami kakushi, oh! edo rocket, sayuki,
shounen onmyouji .....

and we are also amatuer students of  yurei, onni, tengu, and other youkai, which are taken very seriously in Japan,
but without rugrats  we have only a passing familiarity with the pokemon franchise and the synthesized pocket monsters ....

I was casually aware of the pokemon go cellphone app that allowed users to hunt and find various pocket monsters in real-world places.

The positive side was getting lethargic folks outside and leading to getting some exercise (and sore legs lol )

the highly publicized but not often occurances of  the occasional "unintended consequences"  of tresspass and blindly walking into less than pleasant "stuff"

When Niantic released PokemonGO was a problem with this, but now not. Exotic places no need anymore to catch them. Around so many pokemons that I do not have time to catch them all.

I usually use a net , but sometimes a mere tap on the shoulder and a polite
"did you know, you are trespassing on posted private property?"

In Pokemon Go, Pokemon are often located in public places.

I started playing Pokemon Go a few years ago because I'm a Pokemon anime fan. I started watching it when I was five and still follow the franchise news occasionally. In addition, augmented reality games are another level of gaming.  In the anime Master of the Sword Online, it is said that most people will play in VR helmets in the future. Besides playing Pokemon games, I also collect various merch, for example, cards that I buy on https://visualst.ca/collections/graded-cards.  Next month I will finish ordering a ring with an emblem.
