Tiny Republics - would you live in one?

  Tiny republics have been discussed on BG  before.  I found a couple more  in the papers today. The Uzupis Republic adjacent to Lithuania and Sealand, off the British Coast. What would be the pro and cons  of being a citizen  of one of these sectors?

Here is  a republic near here. Whangamomona.  Caught between 2 regions and on the forgotten highway.  The only President of any  longevity  is a woman. Everyone else mysteriously died in office. Citizens hold an annual  Republic Day.

I remember watching a TV programme about Veterinary students a while back. Set in the UK it followed the students through training and into their jobs. One couple eventually went to the Caribbean. It was going to be glorious - diving and sitting in the sun etc... A few years later they admitted; "The island gets smaller and smaller each year."

Having lived in small, isolated towns in Australia I can testify to the toxic nature of these tiny "republics". Would I live in one? NO, NO, NO!

I have my mini-republic. My very own 0.13ha, with bijou palace and outbuildings!
Abt 50 metres from my eastern boundary is my moat a creek, & 800 metres from my (admittedly high) back fence is the northern part of my moat a river. The land between my boundary & the river is perpetual agricultural floodplain, and cannot be built upon. I have one side neighbour, and a 90metre-odd easement at the front - so 3/4 natural boundaries for my mini-republic! Front gates are the drawbridge, inner gates the portcullis - if the gates at the front are open, the drawbridge is down - if the gates are shut, woe betide any varlet, brigand or JW who crosses the threshold!!

Actually, I rather fancy something regal - Ria, perhaps (being female). Having only a small kingdom, I will forego the "Ard"!

They  certainly set the tone. The pub is world famous in New Zealand.  It attracts  rallies  and  tours of all manner of vehicles.  Buses, bicycles, motor cycles, off road,  hot rod, vintage and farm.

Those are interesting links. There is a Hutt River in New Zealand. They are a bit of a law unto themselves in that neck of the woods
