What kind of pirate or non-pirate are you?

Good morrow one and all...

So, there are quite a few threads about pirates and non-pirates and it's getting a little confusing.
So nplease be so kind and introduce yourselves along the lines of pirate or non-pirate.
I would like to know (and I presume others will be interested) what kind of pirate or law abiding citizen you are.
I mena: Are you a gentlemen/lady scoundrel, a Robin Hood of the Skies, a plundering bastard, a naval officer, a freelance trader, explorer or what?

I myself am a maverick officer in service of Kaiser Friedrich III.

Most certainly not a pirate, although they provide a good income:
I am an apparently amoral (yet polite) mercenary, with a soft spot for people who are prepared to be terminally chivalrous, & anyone serving confectionery/sugary substances.
I suppose I should be considered a 'soldier of fortune' who is from good stock & inclined to keep good company  ;)

I am above all else, a Privateer. Servicing under a rich noble, or even queen, my payment of course in the ships I pillaige, and the handsome sum paid by my employer. Quite the lucrative employment, much greater than a job as a financeer.

I'm an adventurer across time and space, and am not a pirate.

Well...not really.  I mean if I take something from the past and bring it home; the original owner is dead, so I'm technically an antique collector, right?

As for the stuff I've collected from the future...can you steal from someone who hasn't been born yet?  Of course not, that's ridiculous.

So, as you can see; I'm no pirate.   ;D

I like to think of myself as a freebooter with a conscience. I and my crew steal only what we need to repair our ship, and stay alive, and even then only things we can't afford. We do not kill women or children, we do not steal from those with nothing, and we do not start fights that we know we can't finish. There are times when we've rescued ships in trouble, rather than hanging back and scavenging from the wreckage.

How shall I answer this...?  I am an archaeologist currently without contract, so that makes me an explorer (of sorts - what exactly Im looking for depends on my level of desperation), but I have been employed as an instructor, so that probably sets me well within "civilized" quarters.  Although, that is not to say that trouble hasn't come looking for me...

How does an archaeologist go about getting on one of those lovely zeppelins anyway...?

As a student of Archaeology myself, I say hop aboard.

Another archaeologist!  Any more show up, we might have a dig...and thus no more need for zeppelins!  :D :D

I am many things

I'm first and foremost a gentleman and the captain of my ship, and i aim to look after my crew.
i also happen to be an inventor and time traveler / explorer though
Inventing is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing.

I'm a Mad Scientist Pirate!
I need to photograph myself in full mad-scincey-pirate gear one day :D
I am also the "lowest" lord of the dark magic organisation, organising and often going on air-ship-trips with pirates to aquire many illegal magic substances and ... things ...

To be or not to be a pirate......

The pirate in my soul speaks very soundly upon this matter and i must agree that I am a pirate.
I am known by many names, Skull and Jade von Delioch are but a few; but no matter what i am a freelance Navigator and Artist. However, it must be stated that I am not one of those common rough and dirty type of pirate nor one of the perfumed fops of the skies.

The Combined Highland Expeditionary Force is an elite unit recruited of "chosen men" and soldiers of good record from various Highland regiments into a single small force and assigned aboard the HMA Todd to assist in its mission to hunt down pirates, smugglers and other Brigands of the Air.

Some refer to me as a pirate, I prefer to think of myself as a scientist. Albeit lacking equipment and funding. When I pillage from our good country's observational and/or exploaration zeppelins, I assure you, it is for the sake of science; not for the sake of theft.  ;)

Renegade Prussian officer, now a revolutionary anarchist. Friend of the world, the enemy of all states (although on certain days, the enemy of all of mankind as well, but that's attributable to shell shock).

Freelance Mechanic & Wrench for Hire (note the 'r' there), I go where the work is. If that means rivetting new platework over machine-gun holes, or notice some military-issue hardwear in definitely non-military vehicles, well, it's not for me to speculate over how they came by it, is it? I mean, salvaging, it's better than letting all that technology rust in some Godforsaken wilderness somewhere. Some of the Empire's craft, well, they hardly bother to maintain the vgaskets, let alone polish the brasswork, it's a crime to let the pistons get in the state of some i've seen, it's doing everyone a favour to liberate some bits and pieces in the long term after all, what goes around comes around and all that...

The I.S.S. Corinth is a transport ship, and a damn fast one. We'll get what you need where you need it, whether that be a cargo shipment, a group of people, or something of *ahem* questionable legality. We prefer jobs on the up-and-up, but what we prefer and what is necessary aren't exactly the same, are they?
And as for our relationships to pirates, anyone who attempts to stop us is dealt with with Prejudice (our cannon). That said, we've been employed by pirates on more than one occasion. It depends on what the mission is.

Hmmmmm.....seldom have I pondered which particular box I can put myself into. Opportunist, informant, inventor, mercenary, crime lord with aspirations of grandeur, a legend in my own mind...people come to me when they need things fixed. (Broken promises, broken hearts) or valuable things transported in less than main stream ways....

Hero? Hardly.
Villain? If I aim to misbehave, I might as well be paid.
Gentleman? Only when I'm not paying attention.
Heartless? No. Call it another character flaw.
Intimidating? Even when I don't mean to be.

Success is measured at the end of the day with my pockets full of pay.

Hmmm...if only it were that easy...
Come! Let us endeavor to climb to the top of the pavilion's roof and sling decapitated chickens at the gods with blasphemous laughter and lustful song!

The Free Prince... the Rebel... which means I get to quote Sam Bellamy yet again...
Quote"D--n my bl--d... I scorn to do any one a Mischief, when it is not for my
Advantage... Tho', d--n ye, you are a sneaking Puppy, and so are all those
who will submit to be governed by Laws which rich Men have made for their
own Security, for the cowardly Whelps have not the Courage otherwise to
defend what they get by their Knavery; but d--n ye altogether: D--n them for
a Pack of crafty Rascals, and you, who serve them, for a Parcel of hen-hearted
Numskulls. They vilify us, the Scoundrels do, when there is only this Difference,
they rob the Poor under the cover of Law, forsooth, and we plunder the Rich
under Protection of our own Courage; had you not better make One of us, than
sneak after the A---s of those Villains for Employment?..."

"I am a free Prince, and I have as much Authority to make War on the whole
World, as he who has a hundred Sail of Ships at Sea and an Army of 100,000
Men in the Field; and this my Conscience tells me; but there is no arguing with
such snivelling Puppies, who allow Superiors to kick them about Deck at
Pleasure; and pin their faith upon a Pimp of a Parson; a Squab, who neither
neither practices nor believes what he puts upon the chuckle-headed Fools
he preaches to."

On occasion, an inventor. Other times, a bold scholar. The rest remains to be seen.

Can't you phrase it "What pirate/non-pirate character would you LIKE to be" instead of this? Personally its a bit ridicilous, not the idea of having fictional alter egos that are air pirates (that is actually pretty fckn cool) but to write it like this "Hello, my name is Lincovintsch and I got a bloody airship which I raid London every morning with" is stupid.

Gaduka

Personally, I would not like to be some sort of air pirate or steampunk military man. I'm perfectly happy in real life. I think that the (fairly obvious) subtext of the question is more important than the literal phrasing. "What kind of pirate or non-pirate are you?" equates to "What kind of pirate or non-pirate is your preferred character in a roleplay?".

Fairly simple. I doubt that anyone here actually believes that they are an air pirate in a steamtech world.

Warwolt

I understood that too, I just don't like the way it was put out. If anything for the sake of SP, it´d be bad if we looked like a heap of people liking to dress up in 1800-clothes and belive we are brittish people during thte victorian era instead of people dressing up in 1800-clothes pretending theyr from the victorian-era  ;) Which is the cool bit.

I'm a capitalist. If needed/wanted goods can be provided to the broader public at a lesser price by avoiding tariffs and other taxes, while cutting out the producers and middlemen, and I and my fellows can turn a profit from such dealings, why not? I'm sure those who are cut out object, but frankly they should be prepared for changes in the market, hostile takeovers, etc. as it were.
